Wild Card/Sunday — 2/15/09

Some of you have asked about the time and place for Blogfest ‘09 (Saturday, Feb. 28). I can’t answer the “time” part yet b/c I haven’t decided. (Which seems best to you 11-2, noon-3, or the standard 2-4 p.m.?) But I can tell you about the “place” part. Or BondGirl can: “Blogfest 09 is being held at Moon Dollars in Post Falls at 609 Syringa — It is on the corner of Syringa and Polston Ave in Post Falls inside JD Dickinson Insurance Building and across from Beaudry Motor Sports and Northwest Specialty Hospital — any more questions please leave them here and I will try to help answer them with DFO since I helped get the location and It will be all to us no one else in the building … yeah and there is room for us…” The SR will provide and pizza — we’ve ordered 5 varieties, from cheese to the works — and pop. You’ll have to buy your own beer. I hear Bent’s favorite will be available. Now, I’ll play this Wild Card and hit the sack …

I’d vote for the earlier, over lunchtime model of 11-2, as it gives the most flex for other Saturday duties before and after the big show, but the exact time really doesn’t matter too much.

I don’t know if I missed this somewhere else, but this is the most detailed list I’ve seen so far of how much is coming and where the stimulus funds are to be used by catergory.

I’m not worried about the time, DFO. 11-2, 12-3, 1-4 whatever you want to do is fine with me.

I did want to toss out a call to BondGirl to see if high speed internet access would be available at this venue.

And if so, then a shout out to our overseas Brit Marmitetoasty to see if she’d be interested in joining BlogFest (or as she calls it Blobfest) via Yahoo Messenger this year. We tried last year but could not get an internet connection established.

Keep me in the loop. The final t-shirt design will be revealed on Tuesday which will leave plenty of lead time to get one ordered and delivered before the event.

Oh Thom, turn that frown upside down. Today is a great day.

I saw this on the Kootenai County Democrats’ web site and I was wondering about it the page “What we Stand For.”

“Charter schools must provide students with equal access, and be accountable to the public in the same manner as public schools.”

OK. I thought the Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy is one of the best in the country and a model for other charter schools. Are there bad charter schools in Idaho?

Charter Schools are nonprofits and rely on donations I would think charter schools are a great thing. I am I wrong?

    Anyone?

Man…you can lead a horse to water, but…well, you know the rest.

5 minutes on HBO this morning and I already need some air.

BTW, Bondgirl, is Moon Dollar open for business, or is it just a private party place?

Very interesting article in the SR today about polygamists near Bonners Ferry. It’s no secret that there has been a significant polygamist presence just north of the border in Bountiful, BC. However, it looks like they’ve been slowly buidling their numbers in Idaho.

Dave’s going to have to draw a map. I am not that familiar with Post Falls. As far as time goes, the earlier the better.

  • bondgirl on February 15 at 6:01 p.m.

Digger - yes they have wireless internet and I will bring my wireless card and laptop as well…directions to Moon Dollars is easy- take the seltice exit if coming from CDA turn right on Idaho turn right on Poltson right in front of Super One Foods go down approx 1 1.2 miles to Syringa turn right and right into parking lot- It is only two blocks west of all the car dealers on the freeway side… it is across from Northwest Speciality Hosptial… I will email DFO a map tomorrow…Bent your beer was ordered and will be chilled for you

  • florined on February 15 at 8:08 p.m.

re blog location…I worked about half a block from there (even before there WAS a Moon Dollar. So I can pretty well tell you the fastest way to get there:

    From Coeur d’Alene
    - go west on I-90, take the Idaho Street exit (it’s the first PF exit…NOT the Hwy 41 exit), bearing right at the end of the ramp. Go just a short distance (about a block) to the Pizza Hut.
    - Turn right, go one block to Polston, turn right. You’ll now be headed Eastward again.
    - Go to Syringa (just a few blocks)and you’re there! Moon Dollar is in the building on your right, on the corner.

I know the above involves some backtracking, but if you take the highway 41 exit, you’ll run into traffic, several street lights, and lower speed areas.

    From Spokane
    - go east on I-90. Take the 1st Post Falls exit (Spokane Street), turning LEFT at the end of the off ramp.
    - now heading NORTH, go a few blocks to Seltice. Turn right.
    - Go through the light at Idaho Street, continue about 1/2 block. You’ll see the Pizza Hut on the left. Turn LEFT.
    - Go one block to Polston, turn Right. You’ll be heading East again, now.
    - go a few blocks to Syringa, and you’re there!

Sorry, Bondgirl…I was a-typing whilst you were a-posting.

  • Cindy_H on February 15 at 8:14 p.m.

((Florine)) I get lost on my way from my bedroom to my bathroom. You’ve provided directions even I can follow!
Looking forward to meeting you in person.

  • bondgirl on February 15 at 9:43 p.m.

not a problem- I was trying to type correct ones out but I got a phone call and had to deal with that - so thank you florined…

  • JIMMYMAC on February 16 at 12:39 a.m.

You have got to see CNBC’s House of Cards. I watched this with my wife tonight after watching it by myself last week. I rope her into watching lots of financial stuff with me all the time-begrudgingly-but she was saying “you called this” or “that’s exactly what you were saying” the entire time. Now, I’m not an expert by any means or trying to toot my own horn (well, maybe a little). The fact is, that shortly after graduating college, I entered the world of high finance and was shaken by the things I was seeing. I was with a very small start up company and was looking for an exit strategy within 6 months. All the data I was seeing countered everything I had learned in 6 years of higher ed. The media is full of daily talking points regarding this topic, but this 2 hour piece breaks it down from A to Z. Try to watch it if you can as they will be replaying it alot in the near future.

  • danofthecommunity on February 16 at 7:17 a.m.

Ahh, rats, just realized that I’ll be flying back into Spokane the day of Blogfest from a national elections meeting…flight gets in at 1 something in the afternoon so now I’l change my vote to the 2-4 p.m. slot. If that doesn’t work there’s always next year…

  • Bob on February 16 at 7:53 a.m.

I just want to compliment JIMMYMAC and danofthecounty for classing up this dump with their very nice avatar portraits.

  • thomg57 on February 16 at 8:00 a.m.

Bob, how could you? That is noy your high school yearbook picture. I know because I went to high school with that guy, it is Eugen McBride! (And I can’t believe his name just popped into my head after 35 years!)

  • Bent on February 16 at 8:43 a.m.

I’m with Dan…2-4 works best for me.

  • Digger on February 16 at 9:25 a.m.

DFO - is the SR paying by the hour for the Moon Dollar? Or could we do a 12-4 event?

I know thats a long time for you to be out mingling with bloggers but I speak from experience from the last two BlogFests that I didn’t get enough time to mingle and visit with everyone I wanted to.

By doing it from 12-4 this gives people time to wander in and wander out as their schedule permits while giving folks like myself ample time to visit with everyone I want to.

    Just a thought.

  • MikeK on February 16 at 10:25 a.m.

Moondollars gurus tell me they are excited to be hosting the big event. They also say they have their own sound system to plug into for maximum volume should that be needed.

  • bondgirl on February 16 at 11:17 a.m.

We can do an 11 to 5 if you want and pizzas can come out a little at a time so everyone can do enjoy it not just the early birds…just let me know Thanks!
