Boys Of Spring

Question: I love Major League Baseball, warts and all. It’s my favorite spectator sport. I also can’t wait for the crocuses and tulips to pop up through the hard-crusted snow. What part of spring do you look forward to most?

Pitchers and catchers reporting is the best part of Spring. A little disappointing this year with still more Steroidorama going on, but there has to be some reckoning someday. Oddly, Bill Maher had a very interesting take on A-Rod and the “Steroid Era” when he was on Larry King (rebroadcast last night). He said - why aren’t we talking about redoing the record books for the eras in which Blacks weren’t allowed to play? Or the era when pitchers were allowed to throw spitballs? Didn’t eras like that affect the quality of the game and the competitiveness and the records we all hold so dear at least as much as bloating up with growth hormones?

I had to take a moment and ponder that one when he said it.

I can’t wait to get back to jogging again.
