New restaurant scoop! Local eyes are moist with joy, or at least mine are, with the news that former Henry’s owner/architect Joe Chapman is returning to the Coeur d’Alene restaurant scene soon when Grumpy’s opens for business in the former Bambino’s location in midtown Cd’A, which for aeons before that housed a cracked-out all-nite laundromat. If you know Joe at all, you’ll know that Grumpy’s is THE perfect name for his new culinary endeavor. As I’ve mentioned before, Joe was my first boss and an old family friend; I washed dishes there at age 15, and it was a default hang-out spot for several decades/OrangeTV. More Bread Crumbs & Tuna Chunks.

Orange - there was a GREAT burger/bar in Ketchum named Grumpy’s. Might still be there. Any relation? Franchise or something?

I’m one of the old Henry’s crowd. I’ll be there with bells on. I’m sure a lot of us will. I still hang with some of the old crowd. Note to Joe: My favorite Ciappino best be on the menu!

One of my favorite Midtown eateries that we frequent often is the Mexican Food Factory. They have the best chips around. Sometimes I just go buy the chips and salsa through the drive up window.

Wheels; you need an avatar.

Haha, Wheels!
I have nothing but love for Joe and I wish him all the best in the world but yes, I think it should be interesting. I mean that in the kindest way :)

Just for the record, Joe may not technically be an architect but he does design houses, buildings and does interior commercial design. Thus his current business, Chapman Designs.

DFO I’m not the only poster without an avatar. Is that an HBO mandate? If so I respectfully request time to choose one. JIMMYMAC don’t worry Joe will do very well.He has a large following and the food at Henrys was always top notch.

OTV, please say you aren’t just a-teasing me with that pix of Joe’s special! And, if we all join hands, maybe we can make the chicken pasta salad with the creamy horseradish sauce return to this earth.

Florine, you’re right - that was a killer pasta salad and I actually used to make it when I worked there. I think I can remember the recipe. It was wagon wheel pasta boiled al dente, romaine lettuce chunks, chopped red onion, chopped pineapple rings, almonds, grilled chicken breast in bite size pieces, and mushroom slices. The dressing was ranch mixed with generous amounts of horseradish sauce. Yum and a half

OfCoffee - I’ve eaten at that Grumpy’s in Ketchum a few years ago - I think it’s still there. It’s the place with the enormous schooners of beer, right? I don’t think I’ve heard that it’s a franchise, but who knows. Good burgers is right.
I used to live at 11th and Front, and Henry’s was a perfect neighborhood place to hang out (and walk home from) if and when I was inclined. I didn’t have much discretionary income back then (early 1990’s), so I didn’t eat there much and can’t recall how good the food was, but the booths, lighting, music, and drinks were great. When a young bachelor has to choose between creamy horseradish sauce chicken pasta salad and beer, well, it should be clear what is likely to win.

It wil definitely be the place to go if you want to hear about the glory dayz of Vandal football. Joe can tell some good ones as he was on the field.

MikeK - That’s where I currently reside.
Now my mouth is watering for Henry’s Steak Bites. Haven’t thought of those for ages. Yummo!
