Upon the advice of my consultants — JeanieSpokane & CindyH — I’ve decided to set the hours for Blogfest ‘09 next Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at MoonDollars in Post Falls. Two hours have been too short in the past. Anything more than 3 might be too long, if a Merry Huckster or two bends the elbow too much at the bar. At this point, it looks like Jeanie, Cindy & their “awards” committee will take the podium (if there is one) to hand out the hardware for the various awards that they’re conjuring for the occasion. Dunno if you want to win one or not. But it’ll be worth finding out what the awards are. Basically, blogfest is a nonstructured occasion to enable you to meet the other bloggers, commenters and even blurkers who inhabit the HBO blogosphere. Even in the current recessionary times, the SR will pick up the tab for the pizza and pop. You have to pay for anything beyond that. Now, I’ll play the Wild Card and continue my R ‘n R from my “procedure” Friday afternoon …

Sounds like a great affair, as it always has been. Hope to see you all there.

Just looked at my work schedule and I work until 5 next Saturday so rats. Y’all ake lots of photos at least so I can sorta pretend I was there…

In this era of campaigning for awards, I’d like to remind the judges of a few awards I believe I might be at least nominated for:
Highest ratio of entrants to top 3 finishes in the photo of the day. I have only tried to caption 5 or 6 times, but I’ve been in the top 3 at least 3 times. A fifty percent ratio. Beat that John A.
Most comment killing posts. Leaving the last post on a comment thread is my specialty. I like to think that I’ve said everything so well that no one else has anything to add.
There are other lesser categories where I could also at least finish third:
Most consistently infrequent commenter
Poorest, use of commas
I have, of course, been racking my brain to find ways to bribe the judges, but feel at a disadvantage being stuck in the frozen north-country. I’m assuming, of course, that bribes are encouraged.
JeanieSpokane on February 21 at 10:21 a.m.
Arpie - we will gladly take your suggestions into consideration. However, Cindy and I are quite above being bribed.
Unless, of course, you are a fireman - and hot, muscles of steel, gorgeous hair, and not young enough to be one of our sons - totally taboo. But if you fit those stellar requirements, please send us your calendar. (two please)
We have several awards and they should honor several individuals’ talents and/or lack thereof.

I should get the most miles about blobber :)

See, this is why Jeanie and I work so well together. I’m the dark to her light, and I absolutely can be bribed. I’m very partial to white wine and dark chocolate but never together.
Just saying ;-)

Cindy H, you ought to try dark choc/ a nice red wine (pref Cab) for a real treat.
Cindy_H on February 21 at 2:34 p.m.
Okay. (See how easily swayed I am?)
Speaking of distractions, am I the only one who finds the Internet as much of a hindrance as a help when it comes to getting stuff done?

Cindy! Great way to front page yourself, kinda. I loved your article. I so relate - and this is related to the awards that I am working on, which actually happened last night from 5:30 to 6:30.
** Ripped off coat and turned on computer
** Pulled up Word templates for certificates. There are so many. Baseball ones. Achievement ones. Perfect grammar ones (I wanted to choose this one but I couldn’t think of anyone to give a Perfect Grammar Award to). Fancy border ones. Funny ones.
** Searched Google Images for huckleberries and very first page came up with DFO’s picture that we see ALL.THE.TIME.
** Found a goat, downloaded goat because it might become useful as an award, and mainly because it might get lost as goats seem to do that all the time on the scanner report.
** Finally go to Word and make my own awards template.
** Type “Huckleberries” and try to use WordArt to make it stand out.
** Back to Google for different fonts.
** Read HBO and Community Comment. Google woman’s rights, woman’s movement, women and the glass ceiling.
** Back to certificate and realize I still don’t have pictures of huckleberries.
** Search again on Google Images for huckleberries and they are all pretty boring and with a little purple added, blue berries will work
** Look at list of potential awards and how best to make an award for the “Blogger Who Should Go Back to Blurking” and decide that is a little too harsh.
** Go back to HBO and scan for thick skinned blogger who can take being told to blurk.
** Look at certificate that has a fancy border and one word “Huckleberries” on it, save it and tell myself “tomorrow is another day”
** Google firemen calendars.
JIMMYMAC on February 21 at 3:10 p.m.
Hello Hucksters!
Just working some overtime trying to keep food on the table. Cannot wait for Blogfest and seeing the ones I know and meeting the ones I don’t. I’m trying to get Coeurgenx on board to attend with me. He is afraid that since he hasn’t commented in a while that he wouldn’t be invited. Cannot wait to see you all. Looks like a great day outside from my office :(
Digger on February 21 at 5:21 p.m.
I’ll be there! Bringing JeanC and her hubby with me - Spazz has to work JazzFest at the UI. Can’t wait!
Sadly, no t-shirts this year, unless you want the one that is already designed. I’m just not as excited about the whole event this year (sure, I’ll come up and socalize but I’m not the cheerleader this year).
Stickman on February 21 at 5:28 p.m.
I look forward to meeting JimmyMac, if I haven’t already, and of course, I look forward to Digger and his annual visit. See you all there, unless of course the thought frightens you in a sense.
bondgirl on February 21 at 7:00 p.m.
I look forward to meeting all of you at Moon Dollars next week-
Kendramama on February 22 at 8:19 a.m.
I’ll be there with bells on… well, maybe not bells, but something cool. All I have to do is figure out where Moon Dollars is. I guess I’ve been out of the scene too long- the only Post Falls watering holes I know of (and used to frequent) are way too hard-core for a Blogfest; you know, places like Bob’s 21 and Curly’s. Sooo… I guess I’ll ask around and Mapquest if necessary.
Digger on February 22 at 9:58 a.m.
CindyH - Is there an award for “Best Gay Commenter”? Since OTV won’t be at BlogFest I guess that leaves only one left. *wink*
Or what about the “Shares Cindy’s Love of Firefighters” award?
Dawn_Q_Otee on February 22 at 7:13 p.m.
Wow. Is this a literal outing on HBO? Not cool if it is.
OrangeTV on February 22 at 7:52 p.m.
No Dawn Q., it’s OK. Old news. Carry on, nothing to see here.
