Wild Card/Tuesday — 2/24/09

In the news this evening, President Obama says that America will rebuild and emerge stronger here. Obama’s approval rating dips below 60% for the first time here. Hearst plans to sell or close San Francisco Chronicle here. Obama plans to pull out troops from Iraq by August 2010 here. Alcohol has been linked to the cancer risk in women here. And the Wild Card remains on the table …

Don’t really give a rip about the so called octo-mom, but this struck me as hilarious.

    BREAKFAST AT DENNY’S
In honor of the mother of the octuplets, Denny’s is offering a new breakfast special:
You get fourteen eggs, no sausage, and the guy next to you has to pay the bill.

“Any other questions re: Blogfest ‘09?”

Yes. I need to know if Trish is really showing up in her condom dress. It’d be so embarrasing to be dressed alike.

And regretfully, it looks like I won’t make the event. Prior engagements and all. So my humble apologies and Cindy, please accept my awards and “accolades” for me in my absence.

That is if you were having an award for best use of a vegetable in an avatar award.

  • Cindy_H on February 24 at 11:08 a.m.

Dang it, CB! You have no idea how much trouble Jeanie went to, to create an award in the shape of a cabbage.

  • JeanieSpokane on February 24 at 11:19 a.m.

CB, I am saddened beyond belief because I finally figured out how to get cabbage to go through my printer without incurring the wrath of my IT guy.

DFO - thank you for commenting on my post yesterday however I would just like to explain what I meant as I have a tendency to not be very clear when I write. Guess I don’t have the gift like Sam does. I just was thinking with all of the publicity about the awards being done by Cindy and Jeannie, that some of the folks who are not big time bloggers may feel no so included in the whole HBO family scene. I think too much a lot. No harm no foul.

I will be attending the event as I have been asked if I could be escorted by the very wonderful and honorable Stickman and I have graciously accepted. I am very excited and look forward to meeting everyone. I am afraid that Sam and the lovely Kathryn will not be attending this year so I suppose I will be a representative of him in an extended way.

It’s Levy Day up this a way. Folks around here are nervous. My guess- passing 52-48%.

  • DFO on February 24 at 11:46 a.m.

Truly; don’t be intimidated by the awards. Some, I’m sure, are meant to be a spoof. You definitely are part of the Huckleberries Online family — in your own right, not simply as Sam’s mother. BTW, Sam’s sabbatical is almost over. I know he’s been getting fit as a fiddle as a result of some kind of intense physical regimen that he has put himself on. Tell him that he’s been missed.

You know you probably have too many deadlines on your plate when you read the news heading, “Blustery day in store” and visualize shirts and purses and cosmetics whirling around inside Macy’s. :)

It’s actually the headline to Jody Lawrence-Turner’s story on the weather. “Wind gusts up to 21 mph with rain showers are in the forecast today, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of precipitation will decrease to 50 percent tonight with a steady wind of 10 mph… .”

Ladies, I am truly sorry for missing this event. If there is anything I enjoy, it is laughing at ourselves with some well worded “awards”. I used to make up these sort of things for another group and everyone seemed to enjoy them.

But a basketball tourney in St. Maries is on the schedule. And I wouldn’t think of missing eight graders scrapping for every loose ball and missing shot after shot. … Sounds just about like HBO.

    So accept my sincere apologies.

  • Cabbage Boy on February 24 at 2:10 p.m.

btw Jeanie, I think you may have voided your printer warranty. I think there is a strict “no vegetable” clause in there.

  • MamaJD on February 24 at 2:50 p.m.

    Isn’t today Fat Tuesday?

  • Cabbage Boy on February 24 at 3:03 p.m.

Yes it is MJD. Did you have your pancakes today?

  • hmoffsuite on February 24 at 3:20 p.m.

Obama is addressing the congress in a state of the union like affair tonight. He has a tough job. He has a sales job. He needs to instill a level of confidence and let us feel comfortable knowing his administration has its arms around the economic problem. He needs to give us specifics as to what their plan will be. Here is what I DON’T want to hear: Nationalization of our private banks and companies. (that has to be made very clear). I don’t want a campaign speech with wonderful rhetoric and no details. He has a chance to gain favor with many Americans tonight, including me.

Most of you know of the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme. The latest ponzi ‘de jour is the Stanford scheme in Texas. Its only an $8 billion dollar deal. An item just crossed the wire that won’t likely be carried by the MSM. Thought I’d give you a little of it here.

2 Biden relatives linked to Stanford business

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two members of Vice President Joe Biden’s family own the
company that oversees an investment fund linked to Texas financier R. Allen
    Stanford.

Stanford is accused by the Securities and Exchange Commission of engaging in an
    $8 billion fraud.

On Tuesday, the attorney for a son of the vice president, Hunter Biden, and for
one of the vice president’s brothers, James, said that the business
arrangements began in June 2007 and ended one week ago.

A fund of hedge funds controlled by the Bidens was marketed by companies
controlled by Stanford. Stanford-related companies also invested $2.7 million
from individual investors under the arrangement.

    Hmoff,

You need to stop questioning the chosen one. He can’t not error. It’s unAmerican to question his decisions. For shame For shame. I asked about the Sin Line, and why it was a good idea, and I got back silence. Don’t question them.

  • Bent on February 24 at 4:29 p.m.

Hey Joker, could it be that nobody really thought it was a project they were willing to defend on HBO?

  • idawa on February 24 at 5:03 p.m.

J- I’d image the nearly 2 Million people in the Las Vegas metro area has a couple reasons for it… but then again, if it’s not your reason then its not a valid reason, is it? I agree with Bent.

  • Stickman on February 24 at 7:09 p.m.

We will miss you of course Cabbage Boy, maybe next year.

  • Stickman on February 24 at 7:25 p.m.

I will be arm in arm with a long time favorite blogger, Truly. I hope many of you make the effort to come, as we will enjoy ourselves as we should and maybe meet many new faces.

  • Transplanted_Texan on February 24 at 9:56 p.m.

It’s now Lent on the East Coast. Bye bye, Facebook. :_(
