Free speech on radio stations across Idaho and the nation must be protected, says Idaho Senator Mike Crapo. That’s why Crapo joined with 29 other Senators to introduce legislation to ensure broadcasters are protected against efforts to increase federal control over the airwaves as well as the content of talk radio and other programs. The legislation was approved today on a vote of 87 to 11 as an amendment to the D.C. Voting Rights Bill/Crapo spokeswoman Susan Wheeler. More here.
Question: Would you like to see talk radio reined in?

Talk radio does not need to be reined in. The free market weeds out what it doesn’t want or like. Once you put a government agency in charge of what I can listen to, my options go down to someone else’s views. If I want to listen to Ed Schultz or Alan Colmes or Rush Limbaugh I can, my free will. I also have a volume control and an off/on switch which I often use.
The only people who seem to want the “Fairness doctrine” are democrats. My question is , why? Are they afraid of opposing views? What then? Let me make my own decisions, I don’t need somebody from D.C. telling me my every move.

I don’t see ANYBODY but Republicans talking about this. The whole thing was a red herring.

Like Charlie, I too have a volume control, on off switch and a tuner. I do not as a rule listen to it. I also seem to recall that President Obama wasn’t all for pushing “the fairness doctrine.” But I do recall prior alt news declarations how religious groups could get into and begin controlling what were supposed to be public airwaves, with the blessings of gvt. On my Dish Network, those same religious channels take up to half a dozen of broadcast networks, quite frankly, I wouldn’t mind if they were reduced to two. As it is, they are completely dropped from my “favorites” list.
What I find most interesting now is that these are guys who can bleat this now who were themselves prepared to argue further gvt control when it was their agenda. Now that they are a minority party, the shoe is on the other foot.

Left wingers should forget about this crazy, unconstitutional insanity! It’s craptastic! Left wingers don’t listen to AM radio, so why should they care? They are off listening to their “Ipods” and their “satellite radios” and their “playlists” and their “podcasts” and whatnot, so they should just leave the right wingers alone.

It’s a boogeyman, designed to keep you guys on the right motivated and up in arms. When this one plays out, your leaders will find another Chinese fire drill for you.

Bill Press, libtalker, Pres. Clinton,Sen’s Harkin, Stabenow, Bingaman and Schumer, not a Rebublican in the group but all would like the fairness doctrine renewed. All have made public statements in favor of the “doctrine”.
We have to much government control now and don’t need more from some unelected bureaucrat. The subject of the internet hs also come up for control. Be careful for what you wish for, it may become a reality..

Mr. Enron bowing down to right wing again. Don’t forget that the good Senator was the 6th biggest donee of Enron campaign contributions according to Open Secrets.org.
