Question: I, of course, support the Obamas choice of a Portuguese water dog, for obvious reasons. Do you think the Obamas should have picked another breed? Which one?

Somehow I remember Obama saying something about getting a “pound puppy”. Oh well, another promise broken.

According to the reports I’ve read, Ms. Obama wants to get a Portugese Water Dog from a shelter.
Good luck. According to a news report, there were only 5 at shelters last year. Five in the whole nation.
The more exotic the breed, the less likely to be abandoned.

You’re memory is failing you. Obama said the preference would be a pound puppy, but because one of his daughters is allergic, that may not be an option. Of course, maybe they’ll be able to find a Portugese Water Dog at a pound or shelter.
Next.

Or possibly thru a rescue group. Not all exotic breeds are abandoned, some need to be re-homed because something happened to their owners, or the owner decided they no longer want the critter for whatever reason, but don’t want to place them in the pound. I see a LOT of messages from Maine Coon cat owners who need to place their cat and don’t want to use a shelter or pound and many are pure bred kitties.

I’m sure Obama would fly clear across the country to pick up a new mutt. He had to fly to Denver to sign the stimulus bill, that was so urgently needed.

I think the first mutt looks cute. Hopefully the kids will like it.
