Study: Best Diet Is One That Works

Item: Study finds best diet is the one that works/LA Times

More Info: Two decades after the debate began on which diet is best for weight loss, a conclusion is starting to come into focus. And the winner is – not low-carb, not low-fat, not high protein, but – any diet. That is, any diet that is low in calories and saturated fats and high in whole grains, fruits and vegetables – and that an individual can stick with – is a reasonable choice for people who need to lose weight. That’s the conclusion of a study published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, representing the longest, largest and most rigorous test of several popular diet strategies.

Question: Which diet has worked for you?

None, all ended up with regain and then some. Of course this study shows that all the dieters were also regaining by the end of the 2nd year. I wonder if they will be checking back at the 5 year mark, which is the golden number for whether or not something is a success.

For a better look at diets and what not after a 2 year study, this is a good one:

JeanC; I began dieting/exercising in fall 2005 with the purpose of dropping a pound a month until I lost 30 pounds. I literally walked off the first 7 or 8 pounds, using 5 3-mile walks a walk. Then, I started cutting back on things. I hit my target weight last spring. Over the course of this long winter, in which I couldn’t walk and was home-bound more than I would like, I packed on 10 pounds. Which I took off again. I’m approaching my second spring at my target weight. But I’m about 3 1/2 years into my new regimen. I’ll let you know in 18 months if it worked.

I work hard for a living so dropping 15 pounds within 2 months is routine for me. Three years ago, I was laid-up with a bad back and was bedridden for over a month and I could hardly move.I lost 12 pounds just from all the pain I had to endure.

I used to play competitive raquetball and the weight would just drop right off.

Looking forward to hearing your results, hopefully you will be in the lucky 2% of those dieters who are successful.

I was an overweight child and young adult but 13 yrs ago I lost 50 lbs. Exercising daily and a vegan diet help me to maintain my weight.
