Nellie, the world’s oldest dolphin living in captivity celebrates her 56th birthday toay, with trainer Melissa Berdine and an ice cake decorated with herring and squid at Marineland’s Dolphin Conservation Center in St. Augustine, Fla. Having already lived more than twice the average lifespan of a female Atlantic Bottlenose dolphin in the wild, Nellie continues to eat well, socialize with her peers and interact with with staff and guests. Nellie starred in shows at Marineland’s dolphin stadium during the 1950’s and 1960’s and appeared in Timex watch commercials in the 1960’s.
