I’m at Moon Dollars with Alison McArthur. We’re 15 minutes until show time. She has this computer hooked to an overhead screen, so Berry Pickers here will be able to see your comments under this thread. If you can’t make it today but have something to say, use this post to submit comments. And we’ll enjoy reading them as we schmooze with those who attend. We’ll miss you. But we’re going to have a good time any way …

Gracious, I turn my back for 3 hours — and look what happens. Leave an open thread for anyone to pounce on at a Blogfest ‘09 computer — and look what happens. Actually, I busted a gut a few minutes ago (upon returning home) reading some of those comments that popped up with my avatar alongside. I had a wonderful time at Blogfest ‘08 and enjoyed reconnecting with long-time HBO friends and meeting new ones. I’m humbled to think that the bold experiment started in North Idaho by the SR 5 years ago remains a gathering place for such fine people. For the many who showed up, thank you for honoring this blog and its place in your lives. For those who couldn’t make it … well … you can tell by the comments posted above you missed something. For my wife, who is about to get onto a plane bound for Portland, pay no attention to photos that might appear in cyberspace showing me posing with Trish Gannon/River Journal and her condom dress. (Hey, when I promise you guys a condom dress, I deliver.) Now, I’m going to light the fire place, grab the cold home-brew that Bent gave me at Moon Dollars (which is beyond a swell place for this kind of event) and watch the Zags.
Digger on February 28 at 4:46 p.m.
DFO - This was a great BlogFest. It really made me feel as if we have a sense of community in our little group and I like what you had to say about bringing it local again.
Thanks to CindyH and JeannieSpokane for doing the awards! Cindy - DFO has my cell # - please get it from him and give me a call when you’re down for Mom’s weekend - I’d love to get together with you at Moscow’s little martini bar if you have time.
Many thanks to Bent for the home brew - I’m chilling it in the fridge and intend on enjoying it tomorrow afternoon!
I love you all!

Winner - Youngest Whippersnapper of HBO

MamaJD on February 28 at 5:01 p.m.
My favorite line of the event was DFO stating, “I’ll need to throw away the used condom before going home, that’s for sure.”
Or maybe when DFO asked the guy who goes to church with him not mention anything that “allegedly” happened at BlogFest during tomorrow morning’s service.
I would also like to state for the record that I am not Catholic. The closest I ever got was marrying a lapsed one. Not that there’s anything wrong with being Catholic. Some of my most favorite people in the world are Catholic. ;)

Jane Q; Christy’s on vacation. Dan of the County musta missed a connection b/c he said he’d be arriving via the airport. But didn’t make it. MikeK was there, fashionably late. Mayor Clay Larkin did a wonderful job welcoming Blogfest ‘09 to his fine town. And Councilman Woody McEvers dropped by to say hello to the gathering, 45-50 or so. I appreciate the card that you & JBelle left for me.

Frum Helen Buck, you can still post links, but you don’t need to do the HTML encoding ( ) and can just post your link as is (beginning with “http://”). The blog software automatically recognizes it as a link and makes it clickable.

Stickman on February 28 at 7:05 p.m.
Observations from one that Truly has a stick figure: I had a great time, though I missed a few. Like Bob of course, and Phil, and Thom. But overall, I enjoyed myself immensely, mainly because I had a great date. I haven’t had a great date since the 60’s, thanks now to Truly. She was very nervous about meeting you all, but once there, she was at home. Of course she wanted to meet Bob, don’t we all. I told her, come spring, when Bent comes over with his special brew, Bob will come, as he is one of my most favored friends and will come because I ask him to. Then Truly will be in heaven, as she really wants to meet the One known as Bob. I enjoy him very much, and miss him, but the blog moves on and goes its own way. Please Bob, come in the spring when Bent brings his special brew for just a few of us to enjoy, and then at the last moment, I will alert Truly Unruly Julie thay you may appear, and she will be here in a moment to meet you. I think she likes you a bit, please be on time for that event. she will be in your palm. As one that has always enjoyed you, The Stickman

What a treat it was to meet you all today. We both had been looking forward to the Blogfest, and will now look forward to getting to know you better. Dave; thank you for all you do for us to keep us connected and contained! Spokesman; thanks for supporting us and for the pizza. The C and J show was so much fun….. even if I didn’t get an award..( I’ll shoot for whatever certificate has the half dressed firefighters pictures on it next year)
I am glad that everyone had a condom.
EagleKeeper44 on February 28 at 8:02 p.m.
What a great time at the blogfest, especially meeting and putting faces to some of the names that post here. Will be back next year if it doesn’t rain too much an the creek don’t rise…
MamaJD: as the guy in the back, I won’t talk in church tomorrow about DFO pimping his ride……LOL ((DFO))
STICKMAN: Great meeting you and will definitely take you up on the envite to come over and talk about the ol’ days…….
Stickman on February 28 at 8:02 p.m.
More observations from the One that carries a big stick, but of course, speaks with a quiet voice. This may go on for awhile, but since I rarely speak anymore, except for simple things, I will make my peace in a sense tonight. Thanks to Truly Unruly Julie for being my date. She was the perfect date, Thank you, She was very nervous about meeting you all, as this was her first venture out in the blog world. Sam would have been proud of her. As was I. I enjoyed everyone there, and actually met a few new bloggers. Was I disappointed, maybe a bit, as I expected to see Kage Mann. He talks the talk, but definitely doesn’t walk the walk. He is history as far as I’m concerned, I will never read another word from him. Sorry, but I was expecting him as was Truly, truly a disappointment. As for Bob, Truly really wanted to meet him, but I told her that in the spring, when Bent has his new brew going strong, that Bob would stop by, and at that moment, I would inform her that he might visit. She will be here in a moment, as her life’s wish is to someday meet the One known as Bob, So Bob, please don’t disappoint the One known as Truly. I know you won’t. As for everyone else, I will try my best to include you, but please don’t be offended if I don’t. MamaJd, always a pleasure, I wish most would leave you alone, but they seem to be attracted to you. I will be there in the sping to see you son’s games, just let me know. I love the pure passion of little ones playing the game I love the most. Baseball. I wanted more time with you, but I will save it for the diamond. JBelle, thanks for the gift, but I would much rather meet you in person. The mystery has got to end sometime, we would all like to know who you are. Show up sometime, and then we will know. Keith, thanks for who you are. Cindy and Jeanne, thanks for stepping up to the plate and putting yourselves out there. And please, share that jar of Purple Gold sometime in the privacy of who you are. My pleasure of course. Where do I go from here. If you are reading , then you will follow along. To keithincda, such a man are you. Thanks. To Chatterbox, your name surely doesn’t imply your actions. I enjoyed our time together, I hope to run into you again someday. I missed the Toadman, such a nice man is he. To John and the lovely Deena, my pleasure, always. To Digger, I always enjoy your company, and thanks for the shells and thinking of me. Arpie, thanks for the sticks and for being the good man that you are. To Taryn, such a beautiful young woman, reminds me of my daughter. I will enjoy your visit one of these days. Dave, thanks for having us and putting up with us. FHB, always a pleasure, thanks for coming. Bent, thanks for being who you are. Jimmy, finally, though I remember you. Woody, thanks for dropping in, I always enjoy your company. Come by soon. Gary, you are one of my favorite guys, I hope that’s okay to say here. Liz, a pleasure, and take care of your 16 year old, I liked her a lot. She has spunk. Did I leave anyone out, I hope not, I love the family, it’s why I come each day, though I don’t comment as much as I used to. I will keep things simple, and never argue with anyone, not my nature. I still miss Bob, but I know where he is. As for Kage, thanks for not showing up. I have also always wanted to meet the Christie, maybe some other day, Sorry I missed you MikeK, that would have been a plus, Maybe in the spring. As for coming elections, i would vote for you and the Sandi in a moment. just my initial feeling. Good luck. I guess that’s it, my mind is at loss right now. Thanks to Dave for having us, and to Truly for allowing me to escort her, a True Pleasure. The Stickman

My first Blogfest was a hoot and a half. From wondering around ex-urban Post Falls looking for the place, to being greeted at Moon Dollar by the city’s Mayor, to meeting and chatting with so many merry hucksters. Two things struck me most and they are interrelated:
First of all, it felt like everyone there was thankful for huckleberries and committed to the continued discourse it provides that is both like no other community and committed to the larger community in which we all live. It is definitely true that the things we share vastly outweigh our differences.
Secondly, the passion that our gracious host has for this monstrosity we have created and he has birthed was self-evident. One of the things discussed at more than two tables I sat at today was the future of journalism. While no one was able to do more than guess where it is heading, most agreed that if Huckleberries isn’t on the crest of the wave it is certainly among the mix of journalism’s next step. While Dave is many things, a big one of them is that he is a long time professional journalist. His instincts are sharp, and his heart is true. He realizes the importance of the voice his beast has given this community, and is ready to continue to shape and strengthen it. For that I am grateful.
I had a blast chatting with all of you. Mike K., I’m glad I was able to stick around to have a beer with you and meet some of your brood. They are as amazing and adorable as everyone says.
Arpie on February 28 at 9:34 p.m.
Random thoughts from Blogfest.
We seem too old to be the future of journalism. Aside from Digger, I think the only people younger than thirty present were also younger than ten. At fifty, I felt young. Why is that?
Great location! The pizza was stellar! Thanks SR. Now I’ll feel guilty if you go under this year. _I’ll always think, I shouldn’t have had that third piece of pizza.
Somebody else already mentioned it, but my vote for best line of the day was Gary Ingram saying, “I’m known on the blog as Thom G.”
Next time don’t set the sound system up in front of the most comfortable place to sit. Those beautiful leather couches went unused.

Stickman, JaneQCitizen is your biggest fan and thinks of you always. It was she who procured that cute StickPeople gadget; because we roll together, always, I”d feel sooo bad if I got all the credit for your Blogfest gift. Besides, you’ve met her! She’s an open book! Fabulous and unforgettable, one you just can’t put down….

Great to see the clan that is HBO. It was awesome to meet every one of you and see the ones that I have met before. I spent a good portion of the time picking the brains of Jay, Keith and Bent-good stuff from all of them. Cindy, Truly, Jean, Nic, Bondgirl, John Austin, Trish, Jay, Jeannie and several that I apologize for leaving out-it was an honor to meet you ALL!
Herb, Digger, Keith, Bent, Gary, From Helen Back, MamaJD, Stickman, Taryn, MikeK, (my bad, I’m missing someone here)-It was great to see and/or meet you all again. Thanks to DFO and SR for feeding us and throwing a great bash. Thanks to Moondollars for being such a great host-I wish you nothing but future success!
JBelle and JQC–how the hell does a guy get the honor of meeting you both?

Montana folks are kind of like that too Marmite. Right DFO?
All kidding aside. Today was an awesome day. Could of been *slightly* better with a few others (and you know who you are), but hey, maybe next time.
I had a blast DFO, thanks.
BTW, Bondgirl is not blowing wind when she says Moon Dollars is the place for your next small- to medium-sized event. They actually bake all of their own bread products daily and they use wheat grown by the Meyers family on the Rathdrum Prairie. Man, I just feel like that’s a business model that’s worth stimulating…
Finally, I just have to say that next blogfest ThomG and Arpie must work out some sort of entertainment piece. No kidding, these two where seperated at birth.

Well.. since I’ve been labeled as shy for my 1st Blogfest, (and maybe true heee) I want to pipe up and say thank you all for being so warm and welcoming and for the applause for Sam. I did indeed meet so many of you and thank you. I look forward to continuing to contribute in my special way here and to also rock on and get to know more of you. Mike K. I am soo sorry we did not meet, maybe down the road:) I can say I am “TRULY” sorry Bob and ThomG were not there. But hey I came with the most amazing date Stickman, I needed that - what a gentleman, what a kind and most cool man! If Stickman ever needs another date I’m hip!!! I wonder if he likes to rock the night away. Dancing is my gig.
DFO - again thank you for the warm welcome. And all of you other bloggers thank you for your heart felt hellos. Good times.

Love to all of you…
MikeK on March 01 at 12:44 p.m.
I’m glad we made it, though I definitely missed out on a number of folks I wanted to see. But those I did see were great. Since I’m a by-marriage-cousin relative of the Moondollars owners JD and Tracy Dickinson (and friends of the other owners Rick and Angie Demmig) I thought the setting was perfect. My kids were most excited to meet all the Merry Hucksters, but the truth is they were more excited to see their, older, cooler, great babysitting cousin and Moondollars server Jaqueline Dickinson (who was taking good care of all the Hucksters there it looked like). So Moondollars was a hit. And Gary Ingram, don’t worry about that little recording device that was installed for your new Pachyderm meetings there.
I’m sorry too I missed the Stickman, and Truly, and Mayor Clay, JohnA and Deena, on and on. Jimmy I was trying to confirm that JQC was there but it was entirely inappropriate to ask the ladies still in attendance if I could see their avatars. Of course, what happens in Post Falls stays in Post Falls, as everyone knows, so maybe next time…
So to: Digger, Herb, Cindy, Keith, Bent, Jimmy, MamaJD, Taryn, Nic, Woody, Gary Ingram, and everyone else I saw but didn’t get to talk to in our short visit - awesome to see and chat briefly with all of you. DFO - nice show, good attendance. And Arpie - thanks for the brew - it’s been way too long since we caught up and I’m glad you’re around and kicking so well here in North Idaho. After it was pointed out, you do kind of look like ThomG, and that’s a compliment to you both.
Seeing as I’m pro-home-brew and I vote, I support another mini-blogger confab in Stickman’s driveway, and so Bent we’ll connect and find a good time to make that happen. Any time spent with Stickman is a good time.
Oh, and one last thing. Gary Ingram came over to me and Woody and said he was glad there wasn’t another councilmember there or it would have been an illegal meeting. Notwithstanding his confusion on the topic, I told him on the other hand I was disappointed there wasn’t a chance for a meeting there because I would have made a motion on the spot to rezone him out of the city on the spot, or at least site a new gravel pit next door to him. We could have made news at Blogfest!
Cheers, all.

“Jimmy I was trying to confirm that JQC was there but it was entirely inappropriate to ask the ladies still in attendance if I could see their avatars.”
Best. Euphemism.Ever.

Hi everyone! It was absolutely fantastic to be at my first Blogfest and get faces to your “funny” faces (avatars). People kept giving me gifts! Thank you! (Cindy gave me the last tote bag so I could haul everything home.) I am actually writing this from WORK, as usual. I was going to catch up on stuff because I’m on jury duty starting tomorrow. My office manager just walked by and said “be sure and turn in an overtime slip.” So - I still feel guilty blogging from work ON A SUNDAY.
The following are the awards from yesterday. Thank you Nic for your wonderful ideas.
• - Best Nom de Plume - Best alias moniker on HBO - Digger
• - Peace-Keeper Award - Goes to the HBOer who breaks up the most blogfights - Stickman

…and of course seeing FlorineD and Joe Butler was a treat, and, and, and…
Cindy_H on March 01 at 1:26 p.m.
I think the distance award went to Jean C.
And it’s Gary Ingram.
I know.
He showed me his avatar.
And no, Mike, I didn’t have to ask.

It was great to slip in undetected and observe this group. It’s really diverse and I enjoyed people watching for an hour.
JeanieSpokane on March 01 at 2:41 p.m.
Thanks, Cindy! Sorry Gary. :) I think I’m a bit loopie and transpose peoples names a lot. And Marmie - I saw you. :)

“It was great to slip in undetected …” — Joker
Yeah, Joker and Marmite, we aren’t buying that one.
It was impossible for anyone to slip in without getting outed immediately… Well except for alliasjax ;-)
Of course JaneQ and Jbelle, stumped us again by showing up early to drop off presents… But for the most part, it was a through outing.
Sam on March 01 at 5:13 p.m.
Sounds like everyone had a fantastic time at the blogfest.
JaneQCitizen on March 01 at 5:28 p.m.
You’re never fully dressed without diamonds and I was getting a bit chilly in polka dots. :) Is that you Sam? Back from your vision quest?
JBelle on March 01 at 5:50 p.m.
Sam, Welcome back.
I have that shirt. It’s one of my favorites. I wear it with a blazer when I fly. Except mine is in silvery letters. I like to dress up on the road. ;)
hhuseland on March 01 at 5:51 p.m.
I tried to pull a couple of the condoms off of Trish’s dress, but just succeeded in causing a momentary uber-cleavage incident. I desisted, since there must have been an undercover cop in attendance.
JBelle on March 01 at 5:53 p.m.
Bent, although you are well smart enough, you just aren’t fast enough. You always want to make sure the back doors are covered. ;)
And you wanna know what? I predict, in 2009, that you and I will meet. In fact, I’d bet you on it.
toadman on March 01 at 5:59 p.m.
Don’t believe her Bent… she’s too mysterious. Take it from one who’s been so close.. oh, so close… to meeting her, within visual range, even, (from what she said), close enough to see my own eye color, and still the encounter went by without me even knowing… she’ll see you, and you’ll never EVEN know. I’m beginning to think she’s a Ninja.
..like the wind, I tell ya…
Bent on March 01 at 7:00 p.m.
Yeah Toad, I hear ya…she parked right across the street from my office for more than a year and I never saw her. But I won’t lose hope… I look forward to it Jbelle
Bent on March 01 at 7:02 p.m.
Herb, I did that too, but I finshed the job. I figured ahh what the heck, the damage was done, I might as well get the condom. Sorry Trish, you were a good sport…
Bent on March 01 at 7:08 p.m.
Oh and I did learn a valuable lesson though. When sampling a condom dress always pull from the bottom row first…
Joker on March 01 at 7:11 p.m.
Bent,
I just spit out my drink. Frigging hillarious.
Stickman on March 01 at 7:16 p.m.
Thanks for the nice comments MikeK, I am sorry I missed you. This spring we will have a special event planned at my humble abode, with Bent’s help of course. I look forward to seeing you then, and of course the story of when you and your son went back in time in a sense in the baseball world. See you then, Norm
Stickman on March 01 at 7:20 p.m.
I have given up on the thought of ever meeting the one known as Jbelle, I just don’t see it happening. Mysterious is one thing, but a few of us, including me, would love the opportunity.
