Without looking would you have known that the mug shot above was taken of former “Three’s Company” actress Joyce DeWitt, after she was booked on suspicion of drunken driving Saturday. NJ.com offers a booking-photo matchup between DeWitt and actress Heather Locklear here. And asks in a poll: Which actress has the worst mug shot.
Question: Can anyone provide a tip re: how to take a good mug shot (in case a Merry Huckster finds himself or herself on the wrong side of the law — and wants to look presentable for front-paging in the local press or on HBO)?

DFO - is this your attempt to get Spencer to comment on the blog again?

Perhaps this question should be posed to Larry Spencer. Lots of posters were pretty enamored of his mug shot last week. CB probably has the right idea. Larry was smiling (sorta) in his shot, too.

Man it sucks to be among the ex-famous. I've wondered about the smile thing. I had an acquaintance test that theory and he looked arrogant and more importantly unrepentant. I know innocent until proven guilty but if I'm going in front of the judge for sentencing I wouldn't want that available to the prosecution.
Isn't Heather Bond's avatar? I wonder if he's seen that shot?

Sarah Palin's epitaph, perhaps?

I think if I'm ever sloshed enough to get stopped, I'll just pass my latest driver's license to the cop and skip the booking photo. I think that's what they are doing over there at the licensing place - they are taking mug shots for future incidents to save money. Why take the same picture twice?

Hey, why can't you post the mugshots of the local pols/celebs? Where could we start? Let's have a contest.

Joyce DeWitt: I always thot she was the cute and perky one on Three's Company…I guess she doesn't quite have those qualities anymore…

The Locklear mugshot wasn't that horrible. Just plain without all the makeup.
Yeah Sis, arrogant wouldn't be the look you want. But casually nonchalant and not worried kinda ruins the fun.

I'm not excusing her DUI arrest, but people have been particularly cruel to Joyce DeWitt. The LA Times ran a photo of her in full makeup from her “Three's Company” days and said “Look how cute she used to be.” For pete's sake, she's 60 years old. “Three's Company” was 30 years ago.
Rule of thumb is don't do something that will result in a mug shot. Analogous to what your mother told you about always wearing clean underwear. Having a mug shot on file is not a good thing if you're injured, killed or a crime victim because it's likely to be the only photo of you that turns up in the media. Everyone can tell it's not a snapshot taken on a happy occasion.

Bemused is a good look for a mug shot.
