Kerri: Marchstache Ushers In Spring

Six years ago Jacob Rothrock was inspired to create a just-for-fun mid-winter excuse to get together with friends to celebrate Marchstache. The only criteria to participate is risking relationships and employment by growing facial hair during the month of “Februhairy.” Rothrock’s friends then get creative with the trimming for the big night. Last weekend Jon Totten and Zack Wood hosted Marchstace ‘09. David Kilmer, with a self-described scraggly Nick Nolte-esque attempt at a ‘stache, deftly described some of his competitors; Totten’s classic Southern Highway shave, Rothrock’s ‘70s-era push broom, Nick Haas with a luxuriant “soup strainer” and Paul Chivvis’ unwieldy creation resembling a high school shop project/Kerri Thoreson, CDA Press Main Street. More here.

Question (for men): Do you look good with facial hair?

My wife likes my goatee, so I keep it.

Honestly, I love Kerry’s column. I think it may very well be my favorite thing in the Press.

Of course I suppose it doesn’t hurt that she’s awesome and even let me borrow her floaties for a river trip. :p But seriously, the ‘stache column is awesome.

I’ve had my mustache since I was 14, my wife is ok with that as long as I keep it close cropped. I like the beard but the war department hates it! ;-O

So,,,, if the job takes me away for a period of time, the beard comes out. But it’s promptly shaved as soon as I get home.

I enjoyed Kerri’s column as well. She has been by a few times, and always a pleasure.

Kerri this was a hoot. David Kilmer is a very creative and talented guy - funny stuff.

Do they have a category for back hair?

I used to have a Fu-Manchu moustache which I thot looked pretty cool, but then my moustache hair turned from dark-brown to a watery-looking semi-light-brown-interspersed-with-gray, so even if I grew a moustache it would be almost impossible to see from a distance. So what would be the point, I guess…

I love my winter beard, it means extra work as the bearded lady in the circus in those old winter months :)
