Huckleberries Online

High Noon: Bitten By Cyber Profile

I am part of a group of people who read our local newspaper online and comment on the news of the day in the public forums provided. It’s great fun and offers an excellent place to interact with others. Some of us have become close, exchanging e-mails and chat messages. One of the women has suggested we all get together at a local watering hole and meet each other, and the gang has agreed. I would love to join in, but the problem is that the persona I built online is that of a hunky, handsome young man — including a pilfered photo I posted as “me” on my profile. Needless to say, he is NOT me. I am a 54-year-old, chubby, graying man who wears glasses/ABS Of Sponge, to Dear Abby. More here. H/t: Liz.

Question: Have you enhanced your online profile?

If anything I’ve become unenhanced by posting here.

  • florined on March 06 at 12:09 p.m.

Let’s see, rich, svelt, young, sultry, brilliant…that’s not that far from short, wide, old, and cranky, is it?

  • JeanC on March 06 at 12:09 p.m.

Ya know, I never even thought to do so LOL

  • Aliasjax on March 06 at 12:22 p.m.

The pills promised enhancement, but I’ve only gotten more animated…

<––––––-In merely a symbolic way. I can’t think of anything personal I’ve written that’s false or been embellished.

  • JeanieSpokane on March 06 at 12:29 p.m.

I’ve never led you on… I’m still short, round, old. I already admitted to being a red-headed Hobbit.

I’ll stand with Sis on this one. No embellishments or distortions.

Actually, I’ve done something new with my profile. Can you guess it? I - ahem - have changed my name. Shortened it, rather. A DFO trend, as I recall. Oh, and I’m not a white bunny hiding in the woods either. Or am I? Hmmmmmmm

  • Cabbage Boy on March 06 at 1:00 p.m.

I am still me. But the dude in my avatar is not.

  • JeanieSpokane on March 06 at 1:00 p.m.

ok, here’s a question, since BethB brought it up. Should I shorten my name to JeanieS? Or Jeanie? I had it that way to designate that I was from Spokane.

  • marmitetoasty on March 06 at 1:02 p.m.

Sis - call me dumb, many do, but I can never figure out what your little avatar is….. sometimes I look at it and I think its a side sketch of an eye, ya know, how one would draw a cartoon eye…. and then other times I look at it and I see a little man in sking clothes standing on a think plank whilst lifting another plank above his head LOL

    Im serious……

it’s sis (as in the dude ever cursed to push a stone up a hill)…

Anyway, I’ve never really described myself physically on this blog…and I’ve never found any reason to lie about who I am and what I do…so I would say I’m pretty much who I claim to be. Now, would I meet people’s expectations of me if we were to come fact to face…who knows? Like that song says, “you just never know how you look through other people’s eyes,” or in this case, you never know how you post through other people browsers?.

Marmite, Sisyphus is a man rolling a boulder uphill…

I’m definitely much younger, much thinner an much more handsome than I portrayed myself at Blogfest…sorry to mislead everyone.

  • marmitetoasty on March 06 at 1:35 p.m.

Oh my, I SEE it NOW……. I was almost right in that I saw a little man with his arms above his head, but thought he was spliting a piece of wood LOL

BUT NOW I SEE it - how thick do I feel now LMFAO……

  • Liz on March 06 at 1:53 p.m.

well, my online avatar is cuter than I am in person…and thinner too…
but willfully misleading people…nahhh…I been around long enough to know that stuff catches up with ya sooner or later…

  • Sisyphus on March 06 at 4:19 p.m.

Here ya go Marmite. I use Sisyphus as a moniker because he humorously symbolizes the task Democrats face in getting elected in Idaho these days. Every election cycle the boulder goes again to the bottom and I start pushing it uphill again. This particular drawing of Sisyphus is simple and elegant, which might not be attributes of my person. But these things are subjective.

Fanks Sis - I always read your nic as an STD I wont now LOL

  • BethB on March 07 at 7:17 a.m.

No one will see this post - BUT I always saw Sis’ avatar as a skier getting ready for a down stroke - arms way up, ready to pull on down and JUMP forward - and here’s the weird thing - I actually identify with the legend of Sisyphus!!! But I couldn’t see it in the avatar image….. But maybe that’s because I’ve been thinking lately that I no longer am that person pushing the boulder up hill… that my life is on the brink of the easier path….
