At 4 p.m. Saturday, the fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Parade will take place in downtown Coeur d’Alene. The parade will begin @ 8th Street and Sherman Avenue.
Question: Are you part Irish? If not, do you still celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green?

My uncle Ray Kelley used to say we were 99 and four-fifths Irish, with a fifth of Scotch in us. :)

A red-headed Irish girl I am.

As I’ve said on occasion before, I’m 100% Portuguese, as far as I know, with all 4 grandparents arriving her from the Azores Island (mid-Atlantic) between the early 1890s and 1920. I go out of my way not to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.

Irish is “Scottish Lite”. Trust me. I’m Scottish. Surname/Clan Scott. Any cousins in here?
Still, they make for good allies when fighting the English!
heh…
JeanC on March 13 at 1:36 p.m.
Scots-Irish, French and German. I however ignore St Patrick’s day, so no green for me.
BethB on March 13 at 1:52 p.m.
I am nine nationalities. One of them is Irish. An eighth Irish, or so I’m told. I think that makes me a true American mutt.

I’ll let you all decide - my Grandmother’s name was Rose Kelly - and they were from Butte!
zelda on March 13 at 2:21 p.m.
I’m Scots-Irish. I celebrate each year by putting The Chieftains’ “Long Black Veil” in my CD player and listening to Sinead O’Connor’s rendition of “The Foggy Dew.” That’s my annual fix of Celtic music. But it’s authentic vs. all that “Feet of Flames” crap.

Not a drop o’ Irish blood in me.
But I spent eleven years of my adult life in Boston. ‘Nuff said….
Time to fire up the Dropkick Murphys…

I’m Scots/Irish as well. Toadman, I’m also from the Clan Scott. ;)

I think I have a little bit of everything in me. Since two of my great grandparents were Calahans, I’d say I have some Irish. But I would wear green on St. Patrick’s Day if I wasn’t Irish cause I don’t want to be pinched. Do they still do that?
toadman on March 13 at 2:54 p.m.
jazzy.. nice. hello cousin. My dad’s mother’s maiden name was Scott.
Sam on March 13 at 3:10 p.m.
I used to think I was far more Irish than it turns out I am. I always thought I was half and half, then I went to dinner with my uncle who walked me through it.
It sounds like I’m a mix but very prominently English. My grandmother’s family were the Hoopers. I think that’s Irish (I think) but I have no idea, let’s be honest.
I’ve done geneaology multiple times but the thing I haven’t really done is studied the names of these people. I do know that some of the family is indeed from Ireland and perhaps even Scotland.
JIMMYMAC on March 13 at 4:08 p.m.
Last name McAndrew. Totally down with the Blarney Stone.
meghannc on March 13 at 4:17 p.m.
I am indeed Irish and St. Patrick’s Day is my favorite holiday. Middle name McArthur, last name Cuniff, and Meghann is an Irish spelling.
MikeK on March 13 at 4:41 p.m.
Is the Pope German?
florined on March 13 at 5:18 p.m.
Can you imagine how awkward it’s always been to have a historically Irish last name but know that my branch of the family was Orange?
PDXPup on March 13 at 9:06 p.m.
There’s a saying posted in the Guinness Factory in Dublin “Everyone’s Irish on March 17.” As for me, my great-grandmother (great-great? can’t remember) was born in County Cork and I am named for her. I have the sweetest pair of adidas Superstars that have Shamrocks all over them and I wear them throughout the month of March. Then they go back on my bookshelf for display.
JBelle on March 13 at 10:22 p.m.
sigh. No, i am not Irish. I am German. Know what we do on March 17? work. all day. and by the way! it’s leeeeeent! what’s with all this beer? ;)
cantyoureadthesigns on March 13 at 11:10 p.m.
It’s Lent? Oh, so THAT’S why we sold so much fish last friday…
Then there’s the Black Irish, dark complected, dark haired, my ex claimed to be one, but she was one fine lassie anyway…
Arch_Druid on March 13 at 11:15 p.m.
My grandmother on my dad’s side had at least Irish roots because of her last name being Rogers. Otherwise, a definite mix of you name it along with German. I couldn’t begin to say how much Irish, but if say Grandma Rogers were full blooded, I’d be about 1/4 Irish. And an absolute mix of everything else. I’ll wear green.
Bent on March 13 at 11:28 p.m.
I am such a mutt. From what I know, I have Belgian, German, French, and native American, but I’m a freckel-faced redhead.. go figure.
I suspect there were those in my family who “welcomed” the Irish or Scotts into the family from time to time…
No matter, I am celebrating anyway…
