Wild Card/Saturday — 3/14/09

I’m becoming increasingly aware that there’s hundreds of stories behind the short items that appear in Scanner Traffic. An unattended death leaves behind families. A trailer fire in Athol is dealt with quickly. But it wipes out a family’s possessions. This week, two items hit close to home. First, a little boy was knocked down by Husky dogs at a bus stop @ Lunceford & 17th. That happened to be the son of an HBO regular who told me that one of the dogs tried to drag the boy off. She asked for Stickman’s address, so she could comfort him with one of Stickman’s treasured sticks. Then, an older man fell on ice at Shopko and badly hurt his left shoulder. That was the father of a friend of mine, a former North Idaho sheriff. He faces a long rehabilitation after suffering other recent health problems. It’s amazing how connected we are in this community. Now, for your Wild Card …

I used to love to read true crime. Still do, actually. But I have a different, more somber attitude towards it ever since the Groene murders. I see real people whose lives are suddenly detailed out for the world to examine and judge.

I see this morning that Charlie Nipp has filed a FOIA notice to Sen Jorgenson (sp) and the AG’s office over the investigation in which Nipp was exonerated. Looks like Nipp has a case and this may be headed towards a defamation suit. This is GREAT news if you are not a CAVE’r.

I’m willing to bet that the open cda crews eyeballs are sweating right about now!!!

Dennis - why would Nipp have a defamation suit for someone asking the AG’s office to investigate?

  • Dennis on March 14 at 11:43 a.m.

Sam, If and / or when Nipp files a suit, it won’t be against Jorgenson or the AG’s office, in my opinion, the people who have been throwing the merde (DFO’s term ;-)….) and hoping something will stick, and then claiming “Whistleblower” status to hide their cowardly accusations are the ones that need to worry.

To be honest, this, in and of itself wouldn’t stand in court, once again,,,, just my opinion, but the totality of all the other slanderous comments and events by the lcdc naysayers combined with this investigation and its outcome may just push it over the top.

I see, Dennis. Thanks for the clarification.

To the one that brought me such a nice gift today, though it was unwarranted, I hope you bring your young son by sometime and I will help him with his fear of dogs. Most are such gentle creatures, but a few are raised by people that are afraid of everything and anything. I hope the stick is a comfort, and if not, please bring him back by for a more comfortable one. I would hate to think I make weapons to deter dogs, but some feel very comfortable carrying such pieces of wood, as DFO himself. I love the little ones and always try teach them that we are all here on this planet together. My own son is afraid of dogs to this day, from an encounter when he was young. Come by and meet Charlie someday with your son, he will Truly love that animal, as we do. We are all on this planet together, some of us just don’t get along. Go figure.

Stickman, thank you for the beautiful stick! I will definitely bring him by when it’s a little warmer. I think he inherited my dislike of dogs, as I also had a bad encounter with dogs when I was young.

Shannon…so sorry about your son, that must have been terribly frightening. It caught my eye because my friend who lives in Copper Ridge had a very similar experience. Her little girl was attacked by 2 Husky type dogs and they tried to drag her away. Since it isn’t that far from where it sounds like your son was attacked I’m wondering if it could be the same dogs? Hope you are doing well.

Shannon: Sorry I wasn’t more hospitable, but I was in my stocking feet and just having lunch before coming out for the day to do what I do best. When you come by with your son I will show the both of you around a little more. I hope your son is okay.

Cpa-thanks for your well wishes! My son is doing better-I think he is even more afraid of dogs now than he was before though. There were 2 dogs, a husky that never came closer than across the street and a 40 lb 2-tone brown dog which is the one that knocked my son down and tried to drag him off. Is this the same pair that your friend had an encounter with? DFO had an entry farther down the police blotter that day that something was attacking a cat in the same direction I saw those dogs go about an hour after that incident with my son, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they did that too.
