The Gonzaga men’s basketball team, making its 11th-straight appearance in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, drew Akron and will play in Portland on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Zags, 26-5 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the West Coast Conference, won the WCC postseason tournament last Monday, gaining an automatic berth into the tournament. Gonzaga is the No. 4 seed in the South Region/SR. Complete NCAA tournament bracket here.
Question: Is a No. 4 seed appropriate for Gonzaga?

It doesn’t matter the seed, Portland will smoke them. Darn it, Or, maybe, just maybe, they will make it to the next round, and get your hopes up. Not mine. Never.

MARK FEW CANT GUARD THE THREE!!!
Thank you Keith Osso.
They’ll beat Akron but after that I’m not making any guarantees.

It’s a good seeding for the Zags, who should get by Akron in the first round. Then I’ll think they’ll get past their second round opponent to make the Sweet 16, there to face North Carolina, probably the easiest of the Number 1 teams. They sure didn’t want to face Memphis, Connecticut or Pitt any sooner than they needed to. Although they should have beaten UConn earlier this year, they’re a tough team, and we’ve already seen them against Memphis in Spokane (not good). My pick is for Pitt to be the national champ.
Some of the talking heads are predicting that the Zags could be the upset special team and make it to the Final Four. They have the depth; now we need to see if they can continue their play of late and not lapse into the bad form they showed earlier against Memphis.

As hot as they have been playing, the 4 seed is deserved. What a cluster for this baby blue loving Hansbrough fan. In the end, If I have to, I’ll be pulling for my beloved Zags if they square off with the Heels. As for brackets, if UNC has a healthy ACC player of the year Ty Lawson, I’ll be looking for them to run the table. This is by far the widest open tourney I ever remember…..there are 8 or 9 legitimate teams that could cut down the nets.

Goes to show you how much I know. They play Akron, not Portland. So much for my sports knowledge.

The four seed is fair. Akron will give them a game, but my money is on the Zags. Unfortunately, if Illinois gets past upset specialist W. Ky., most likely the Zags go home next week.
JM is spot-on. I can’t remember when there was this much parity in college basketball, particularly in the top 10. And it’s not lame parity like the NFL. There are a boatload of great teams in this tournament.
