I don’t like it when people mess with my routine. For the past several weeks the owners of my grocery store of choice have been remodeling. I don’t like it. I don’t like it that every time I go in there things are moved around. And I won’t like it when it’s finished because I had the store memorized and could get in and out quickly. Now it takes twice as long to shop because I have to zig zag back and forth through the store because my list is written in the order of how the store used to be arranged/Jen, A Butterfly Moment. More here.
Question: Do you get upset when something messes with your routine? Or embrace the change?

I am usually upset until I get used to it, which usually takes a while. When Safeway recently remodeled I had a heck of a time finding what I needed. I don’t need adventures right after work. Luckily they were able to get things finished fairly quickly and things are more or less back where they are supposed to be.

My store remodeled recently, too. There must be a guide book to grocery stores to rattle the cages of us staid shoppers.
My other deal that messes my routine is the imaginary script I write for different episodes of the day. Say, I’m going to meet my significant other for dinner and I “plan” this great conversation where we talk about fixing up the house and putting his mother’s 20,000 Garfields collection in a box in the back room instead of two-thirds of the couch. In my script, he is so happy to accomodate me and even suggests that he’ll do it himself. In reality, he says “you know, I really like 20,000 Garfields reminding me of my mother…” and my script floats away on the breeze.
