Hey, Wait Until I Finish Racking ‘Em

“Hey, wait,” said Caden Brown,7, right before playing pool with Dylan Sande,7, far left and James Star,6, front at the Boys and Girls Club at their temporary headquarters at the Post Falls Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday. You’ll find this photo and columns by HBO regulars in Sunday’s Handle Extra, including OrangeTV, Betsy Russell & your Huckleberry Hound. The Handle Extra will be available in the regular paper, for SR subscribers in Kootenai, Bonner & Shoshone counties — and in news racks. (Kathy Plonka/Spokesman-Review)

Okay, so first of I suck at pool. I guess I should have listened to my geomotry teacher that I would need it later in life. But a real quick side note, with all the hype surrounding the upcoming opening of the Kroc Center I think the Boys And Girls Club has been lost in the shuffle. The club, at the helm of director Ryan Davis, has already provided an invaluable service to the working class families of Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene. At $20 a year, per kid it provides a safe place for kids to go to after school. It is time for thier final push to raise money to construct the Jordon Johnson Center in Post Falls and every little bit helps. Even if you only have $1 or $2 please stop by the center in Post Falls or in Coeur d’Alene and give them a little help.

I grew up in a pool hall environment. I am very good, though I hate to brag. It’s been 10 years or more since I picked up a cue, but if I meet anyone on here that has such a talent as that, just for the fun, I will play of course. Also, ping pong, I am the Forrest Gump in my mind. In the 50’s, my mother was a state champ, and I always love a game or two. When I can find a table, which is very hard these days. If someone has one and wants to take me on. I will be there, with bells on.

I enjoy shooting pool. What’s hartwarming about this photo is seeing the kids having a great time at the Boys and Girls Club. Growing up, the Boys Club was a terrific resource for me and my brother. I have good memories of many an afternoon spent at the Club—shooting pool, playing board games, hoops, foosball and boxing.
