JeanieS: It’s not the drive in food places I miss - it is the drive in movies! Just think about the fact that children today will never know what it’s like to drive your car right into the “theater” and have with you all the food you want, home made popcorn, sandwiches, cookies, Koolaid. And playing on the swing set until the sun goes down low enough to see the screen. The Autovue on Trent I think. When I got my driver’s license, I was “allowed” to take all my siblings in the Volkswagen and go to the Autovue for a $1.50 a carload. The upside: the driver had the best seat.
Question: What movie was playing the last time that you went to a drive-in movie?

I can’t remember the last one I saw, but I do remember one we went to when I was quite young - Rosemary’s Baby! Yikes - can’t believe my parents took us to that, but I’m thinking maybe it was number 2 in a double feature and they figured we’d be asleep. I’m sure my sisters were, but I remember parts of it - scary.
Jeanie - I believe that the Drive-In in Libby is still going? I know year before last the Screen blew down and I thought that would finally be the end of it, but when we drove through last summer they had new releases on their sign.

I don’t remember. Like Me I do remember when I was a kid and we went to the drive in. It was a double bill, don’t remember the first movie, do remember the 2nd being Tora! Tora! Tora! and I fell asleep halfway thru. Both my brother and I were wearing our jammies so mom and dad could just pop us in bed once we got home. Lots of kids were there in their pjs playing before the movies started.

Come up my way Jeanie…. we still have an old-fashioned drive-in theater in Kettle Falls! It should be open again in May!

I can’t remember the title of the last one I saw at the Coeur d’Alene Drive-In on Gov’t Way, but I do remember the last time I saw the screen, it was on the ground after a windstorm, and the marquee said “Gone With The Wind” - that’s the last time we had a drive-in here…probably sometime in the early ‘80’s. And before that we also had the Showboat, which was a real boat (for the concession stand), over on the property where Goodies service station is now on Ramsey…We used to take the kids in the back of the station wagon with their jammies on, back it in to a place, and all of us lay in the back with the tailgate open and watch the movie…everybone could see that way. The good old days when movies were CHEAP! JH

Wow! I am on my way to Kettle Falls! I see an HBO girls camp out in the near future with a chick flick and wine and snacks.

Last time I went to a drive-in, I was disappointed, and I damn near froze to death to boot.
Went to see “Closed for Winter”.

My wife does outdoor movies at the lake in the summer. She got a blow up screen that is about 20’ high and all the electronic stuff. On Saturday nights we have outdoor movie night. She has the snack bar, juji fruits, dots, whoppers, popcorn popper etc. All the neighbors come and bring their kids and friends. It is a neighborhood hit. I want to get to car front ends and have them set up as seats for the movie. So one would think they were actually in a car. Then, with the ratty movie speaker in the window, it would be rather nostalgic, I think.

There’s still a Drive-In down in Grangeville. On vacation, I went to the Spud Drive-In in Driggs a few years back.

Spirit and Spiderman, seriously I’ve been to one that recently. I was living in Amarillo for a period while working for the corp offices of Hastings and we had a drive in there. 4 of us went it was great. We actually BBQ’d next to the car before the movie. It was probably the best movie experience I ever have had. Screw the Riverstone Multiplex and the AMC we need another drive-in.
