New Jersey Draws Bikini Wax Line

In this June 21, 2002, file photo, visitors and residents spend the day on the beach in Belmar, N.J., on this first day of summer. New Jersey is drawing the line when it comes to bikini waxing. The state Cosmetology and Hairstyling Board is moving toward a ban on genital waxing altogether after two women reported being injured. Both women were hospitalized for infections following so-called “Brazilian” waxes. The board will decide on April. (AP Photo/Brian Branch-Price)

Question: Ah, do you think states should be concerned re: the health hazards of bikini waxing?

Give me a break! I think the states have enough on their plate to fret about.

I always find it interesting how something like this turns into a big deal (over two people), and other things that affect thousands of people go ignored. Whatev.

Wait a minute guys. Sure it was written up as the state of New Jersey, but its only the licensing board doing their job. Whether that should be an all out ban I just don’t know. I kind of doubt it. But I suspect they had many more complaints than the two who were hospitalized.

How about you Dave? Was your was job OK? Any side effects requiring medical attention?

I was once challenged to write a story using this theme: The First Thing I Did After My Divorce Was….
Let’s just say bikini waxing featured prominently.

with so many people on the beach in that picture who’s gonna notice anyway?

Guys, guys….this is no laughing matter. People have gotten some VERY nasty infections indeed from this particular procedure.

Just remember, it’s all fun and games (not to mention sick jokes) until someone gets MRSA down yonder….

    Seriously.

It. Is. None. Of. The. States’. Business. What. One. Does. With. Their. Business.

I would like to know how they intend to regulate the ban ? Will there be a “bikini inspector”? …..I couldn’t resist

Cindy, I think you have something there, in kind of a sick, yet therapeutic way, “The First Thing I Did After My Divorce Was….”

Lost 20 pounds, got a body massage, bought a slinky red dress, went out dancing. All in about four weeks.

  • JohnA on March 19 at 3:16 p.m.

No offense, ladies, but mightn’t a new slinky red dress and bikini waxing have helped to prevent a divorce in the first place? Just askin’. :)

  • JeanieSpokane on March 19 at 3:18 p.m.

I won’t go there, John, except to say I blossomed once I didn’t have a giant thumb squashing me to the ground.

  • JohnA on March 19 at 3:28 p.m.

I was only kidding, Jeanie. I didn’t help my marriage, either.

Of course the new slinky red dress looked terrible on me and the bikini wax - well, I won’t go there, either.

    :)

I would hope that if the State feels the need to address this issue that they would wait until Tuesday morning, say 10ish or so. My appointment is for 9:00 am at a reputable salon with deep pockets should I get a nasty infection. Which I won’t because I’m not going brazilian. I’m just going to Tucson.

  • cantyoureadthesigns on March 20 at 12:26 a.m.

    Waxing? How painful and quaint.

    Laser.

  • Bent on March 20 at 12:55 p.m.

LoL, MamaJD. Personally, I just try to keep things well manicured and lightly scented…

Dang, I don’t know how you gals do that. I pulled a bandaid off my arm after a blood test two days ago and I’m still whinning about it.
