Me: A Fair-Weather Fan For Dad

I’m a fair weather sports fan. A band wagoner. I haven’t ever stuck with a team for a really long period of time. My Dad had 3 girls, so he ‘forced’ us to watch sports with him. I say that with a smile on my face, because we lived in Montana and Idaho and only had a couple of channels. It wasn’t like we were missing something, and we got to spend one on one time with Dad. He patiently explained things to us. I especially remember watching baseball with him. The Reds. Bench, Coleman, Rose. I did grow to love it. I’m wondering how we even managed to get a Reds game on Missoula TV? And how often could it have been?/Me, It’s Just Me. More here.

Question (for women): What kind of a sports fan are you? Band wagoner? A “fan” who watches sports to be around the important men in your life? A true fan in every sense of the word? Not a fan at all?

I am a football fan… I have a couple of teams I like. Of course I keep hoping for the underdog..Seahawks.. I always lived in the area of losers..maybe I was the jinxs. At the time I lived in R.I. the Pats were losers… I lived in San Diego and the Chargers were losers… and now the Nw.with the Seahawks…
I not really crazy about watching football with others.. As when some one fouls up, i am disgusted.. and it is not uncommon of me, to stand up in the living room, yelling, run, run, you S.O.B. run, as some foot ball player is making a 80 yard dash. Not very lady like. And no it isn’t because of the men in my life, as most of them hate football, but my daughter and I love to watch the Super Bowl together.

I am a true fan. I love to watch my school’s league in all sports, especially B-8 football. I also keep current on college basketball and football and follow our Inland Empire teams regularly. You can call me a VANCOUGZAG fan. I am an alumni of University of Idaho and WSU so when they play against each other or Gonzaga gets thrown in the mix it is hard to choose sides.

I love hockey, even though I am pretty sporadic in my watching of it. I love the fights…I admit it…LOL

Other than that, I only become interested in sports if one of the Boston teams is playing. Sorry.

I am a fan of the Mariners, WSU, and Gonzaga. But I have to stand in the kitchen or go into the computer room while the game is on because, well, it’s ME, I’m a jinx. I can’t be in the same room because they lose. I stopped going to Spokane Indians games for that very reason. If I stay in the car, they have half a chance of winning. If I stay home, it’s almost a sure thing. Zags on Thursday? I started watching and they were LOSING! I hid in the kitchen and they started making points. I finally just left the house and went to the store. And it worked!!

I guess you can say that it is best for everyone if I just stay away from being an arm chair sports fan. Even the band wagon is too close.

Jeanie - that cracked me up!!!

The game has underway Jeanie and the Zags are down a bit. Where are you right now Jeanie? lol.

I’ll have you all know that I took a nap at the crucial moment. My tactics worked AGAIN!!! Go Zags!

Thank you Jeanie! We needed that nap of yours!!!! Kidding! I grew up in a family where the “men” watched the sports sort of deal. It was not until I was married, and my husband explained what was going on in football, and patiently answered my questions about what was going on in basketball or whatever we were watching, that I began to enjoy watching sports. It’s a fun thing that we share now.
