DFO: Mrs. O & I gave mixed reviews to the “Twilight” video last night. She thought the teen-vampire movie started slow but picked up enough to be scary and earn an 8.5 out of 10. I thought it started slow and didn’t pick up enough to pull more than a 7. It’s a bit different to have a human hanging out with vegan vampires. But it’ll be more interesting if the American Indians introduced in the movie turn out to be vampire-hating werewolves in the sequels.
Question: What do you think of “Twilight” — the books or the movie?

I watched the movie last night, too. I had seen it before, but bought it yesterday and watched it after the kids were in bed. I like the movie but I can’t watch it without thinking about all the things that were missing from the book which was sooo much better. But the books always are, right?
My husband totally fed into my annoying pausing the movie to explain all the back story to him by asking questions about the book and what was really going on. I can’t wait for the sequel. Bring on the werewolves!
I did appreciate the music more watching the movie this time around. Very nice soundtrack.

I’m with Stephen King… They’re just not good.

I liked the book better than the movie (what can I say, my daughter made me read them). She loves the movie; saw it three times in the theater and got her copy of the DVD at midnight Friday. It will be interesting to see the second one and how they handle the werewolves.

I watched about half of Twilight last night then fell asleep. I wasn’t that enthralled, but I like the setting of rainy western WA state and the way it was filmed to make everything kinda washed-out looking. I do like the actor Robert Pattinson and I’ll bet he has a HUGE career ahead of him. Overall, I say “meh.” Not enough blood, and too much of a corny love story for my tastes.
My favorite vampire flick will always be “The Hunger” with David Bowie and Susan Saran Wrap.

Haven’t seen the movie but did read the first book. Stephanie Meyer is a decent writer and has created a nice little niche with her cast of characters - Bella, Edward, Jacob, etc. It’s written in the first person (Bella) which adds some spice to the character development and interactions. Actual plot is slow to develop and not really very good. The trickery used by the “bad” vampire to lure Bella was extremely thin and rushed. I think Meyer is good a producing characters, but not so good at doing anything with them once they are established, hence, the lack of meaningful action and story climax.
The series is definitely angled toward the teenage crowd and a little too sanitary for my taste actually. But, anything that gets kids excited to read is a good thing. I give the series two thumbs up on that point alone.

Gad, I must be getting ancient. As a preteen I loved the vampire movies of old. But I scratch my head wondering how any adult thinks these “twisted teen” movies are good, or worth buying.
More and more of the new movie releases are targeted so narrowly towards the kiddies, teens and young, immature adults that my wife and I rarely spend the time or effort to see a movie in the theater these days.
Without Netflix we would be lost.

I’m with Nic and Stephen King…just say no to Twilight…
My bff is obsessed, and I do mean obsessed with it. She even has a “Twilight Moms” mug (yes, such things exist).

Last Demo,
Netflix is a wonderful addition to the movie viewers world. All the movies without having to walk through the store wondering what to rent. Plus so many old classics on DVD. We have been enjoying the Jeeves and Wooster series.

Liz, it sounds like your friend is trying WAY too hard to stay relevant in her kid’s life. “Twilight Moms” fits quite well though, sorta like moms that are fading quickly in their kid’s life.

Just another angsty teeny “vampyre” flick. I still like The Lost Boys…but I’m old fashioned where my afternoon specials are concerned.
If anyone wants to talk about how BAD ASS the new Battlestar Galactica series was over the past five year though, let me know. It had it all; sex, violence, robots, sex with robots, alcoholism, more violence because of the alcoholism, pantheism, deism, reincarnation, and hot chicks maiming people with guns, chain smoking doctors, dark depressing storyline, lots of twists, turns, and despair and drama.
Yeah.. it had it all..

Yeah but Toad, Twilight has Robert Pattinson *and* his hair.

I’ve just always thought it was remarkable how much ladies like vampires.
Liz on March 24 at 1:08 a.m.
No, Cabbage boy, sadly that is NOT it. I wish it was..
Alas, what it is, is this whole community of middle aged women swooning over Edward Cullen, the perfect man.

And since he is a vampire, it doesn’t matter that he is forever a teenager because he’s “really” older than they are…
They sign their emails and posts “real men sparkle”. I also saw one that says “You know you’re obsessed with Twilight when you tell your husband damn it, why don’t you sparkle?”
I find this to be a highly disturbing trend…
