RS: Demos Make Big NW Gains

The Center for American Progress has put together a map on this, showing in the Northwest that Democrats made the largest presidential-level gains in Idaho (13%), closely followed by Oregon (12%) and Washington (10%). In Washington state, 18 counties (of 39) registered a Democratic shift of more than 10%. The largest shift was in one of the most Republican counties in the state, Chelan County just east of the Cascades, at 15%. In Idaho, 21 counties (of 44) shifted 10% or more. As in the other states, most were just above the 10% mark, but one of them - Teton County - registered the largest shift in the whole region, at 23%, as well as the second highest, Power County at 18%. Those are both small counties, but also of interest were the shifts in the two largest counties in the state - Ada (17%) and Canyon (16%)/Randy Stapilus, Ridenbaugh Press. More here.

Question: Do you see a day when Idaho will become a toss-up state?

IVA—Death certificates for fetal death as a consequence of abortion. Legislation was voted down by “confused” anti-abortion members of the State legislature. No woman should be forced to have a death certificate for an abortion unless she does indeed request one. And usually because of the following: Miscarriage, fetus dies before birth by natural causes, fetus so handicapped before birth that it won’t survive, car accident or other situation that causes a premature delivery leading to the death of the child. In short, only because the woman wanted to have this child would she then desire a death certificate. IVA would force it on her regardless of the circumstances. I don’t think so. That isn’t a “value” I can agree with.

No way. There are too many church going conservatives in the state, for Idaho to be a swing state or a democrats haven. The days of Frank Churches being elected in Idaho are long gone.
Anyway, 65% of the populace in Idaho are republicans, so the little gains Demos make won’t make a difference.IMO
