JimmyMAC: Here is my warning for all you HBO’ers our there in Kootenai County. If you feel
like you are getting sick in the least bit-get checked out!!!!! I am one that never ever never goes to the doctor. I very rarely get sick or complain when I do. I went last night to After Hours and was diagnosed with influenza. The good doc said it is rampant, in fact he had 7 consecutive high school students this week who tested positive for it. This thing has hit me like an absolute TRAIN. If you catch it within the first 48 hours, you can get antibiotics and it will be cleared up in about 48 hours but he did warn that without treating it early, you could face the symptoms for 1-2 weeks.
Question: Anyone else out there with the flu bug?

eeeeuuuu, the flu. I try to avoid it like the plague. (ha ha)
I really believe in getting a flu shot and I missed it this year because … I had the flu. If you are around elderly or high risk people and you have the flu, you owe it to them to get a flu shot and if not, to wear a mask. I have taken care of two elderly people recently - my mother-in-law for three years and her mother for two years. My grandmother-in-law was very frail and in a nursing home when one of the aids came to work with the flu and didn’t take any precautions. There were a dozen elderly that got the flu from this jerk - and my sweet Hannah died.

I would have preferred to have had the flu then the crud. At least with the flu I would know how the course was run. Not so with the crud :P

Hey JeanC,
This flu feels like the crud, but no so sure exactly what the crud is :)

Not sure what I had, but it wasn’t the flu. The flu I know (esp after getting hauled into the emergency room last spring when my temp hit 103F and hubby panicked. Doc sent me home to rest and have lots of chicken soup). At no time did I ever have the symptoms I usually get with the flu. I was tired, but mostly from coughing all night.
The one really odd thing was at no time did I ever run an elevated temp. I get the sniffles, I run a temp. My temp pretty much stayed right around my normal 97F. Only had a mild sore throat the first day. Sinuses got in the act about day 3. The coughing started day two, I wish they would invent a cough syrup that tasted good. Musinex works as advertised (and considering how much it costs, it better LOL)
All in all, the flu would have been more pleasant :D

Oh dear. I hope my flu shot is still going to work. This seems a bit late for the flu outbreak. Jean C, I refuse to take any liquid that doesn’t taste good, A friend turned me on to Delsym cough syrup a few years ago. It’s not bad at all and it lasts for 12 hours.

Thanks Frum Helen Back, I’ll keep that in mind the next time I need a cough syrup. Lasting 12 hours is good as I like to sleep thru the night instead of staying awake coughing :D
I see it comes in oragne and grape. That has GOT to beat the heck out of the “cherry” flavor most of the others have. GACK! The only time I liked a cherry flavored cough syrup was a prescription one from my doc and it had enough codeine in it I didn’t care about the flavor LOL

If it’s truly influenza, antibiotics won’t help at all because flu is a virus. Your best bet for genuine flu is Tamiflu or something similar in the first 48 hours after onset.

Influenza and out flew lunch. :)

John, do you dream in puns?

Nah.. best bet for flue is hot tea with honey, heavy on the Jack Daniels, lots of tissues, and bed rest…unless, of course, you have the stomach flue, which is another, messier, bug indeed. I generally live in the shower wishing for death during a bout with the stomach flue.
