MikeK: Howdy, all. If you’re interested, the new City of Coeur d’Alene Blog is live. You can also get there (and most people will) through the city’s main website here.
OTV: Nice to see that HBO is listed on the city blogroll. Wouldn’t it be rather swell to see Getoutnorthidaho.com listed there as well? Just a thought…(hint hint).
Question: What information and links would you like to see on the city of Coeur d’Alene Today Web site? (BTW, the link has been added to the HBO Blogroll.)

A blog just ain’t a blog without a comments section. Come on, CDA, get it together!

Too much riff-raff would probably cause a comments section to be more of a headache than it’s worth. I’m certain the city couldn’t pay for a DFO, and the volunteer system is questionable, as evidenced by CDA Press.com. Best idea is to not even go there.
Also, l noticed the link to HBO has removed from the city blogroll. Bummer.

Yeah, I noticed the links to HBO and CdA Press removed this morning. I’d guess that the bureaucrats are in a cover-our-behinds mode. I can see why they’d be nervous re: outside links. But they’re also being shortsighted. No site will generate more traffic for the new city site than this one. Mebbe they should establish a media section for links. Which would eliminate the need to put links to every Tom, Dan & Mary on the city blogroll.

c’mon. There are different types of blogs: (1) those specifically to voice the opinions, doings, etc of the owner of the blog; (2) the “readers’ digest” type that consists mostly of links and clips from other sites, centering around a theme, such as politics, hobbies or religion; and (3)then the less common sort such as HBO, which has commentary by readers as its life’s blood.. The “moderator/docent” chooses topics, usually based on current news items, and asks a question intended to generate conversation.
I think the new CDA blog can serve a major function IF…that’s IF people like Victoria and David can keep the site fresh. I certainly like it so far. And I can foresee its growth both in scope and in audience. By the way, I’d think there’s clear need for sidebar information (links?) re restaurants in the region and history of the area. Links to OTV’s GetOut and Remember the Roxy (as well as input from the museum, the Arts Alliance and a number of others) could add relevant substance. Again, the secret to the success will be keeping it current…not a light task.
