A civilized political process could finally be taking root. Back room deals may be replacing
roadside bombs as a means of getting things done in the land of the Tigris and Euphrates. It is not impossible to imagine that, 10 years from now, Iraq will be a stable, comparatively affluent and reasonably free society in the heart of the Middle East, the fulfillment of the neo-conservative dream. Of course, it is easy to imagine a much more grim outcome, as well, but, for now, the signs are encouraging. If American troops pull out on schedule, harsh memories will fade. In time, a reassessment of the invasion and its aftermath could reflect more positively on George W. Bush/David Horsey, Seattle P-I. More here. And: Cartoon here.
Question: Is it possible that history will smile on former President George Bush for invading Iraq and supplanting dictator Saddam Hussein?

I will always smile on GWB, he did his thing and now someone else is trying his best as well. Put yourself in that chair, and then judge.

Time has a way of leveling the playing field. GWB took a bad situation and did the best he could. It is easy to be an armchair quarterback, but when you are in the game and getting hit, lets see how good you do. I would not want the job, it’s a killer.
GWB sought to do good, BHO seems to want to look good, my opinion, we will see.

Perhaps after all of us who were alive during the GWBush administration die off, his playing field will be leveled, ‘cos there won’t be anyone around who actually remembers him. Maybe he initially sought to do good, and, but for the Iraq War and Katrina, he might have coasted through relatively unscathed. I guess when you’re the Son of a Prezzident, what do you do except become Prezzident yourself, if that’s possible. I’ll bet GWB is a good guy, but he sure was a dismal Prezzident.
Stickman on March 26 at 9:51 p.m.
Escapee: I agree, he was pretty dismal. But, I still liked the man. Again, put yourself in his chair and make some decisions as he had to do. I would hope I would have the strength. I doubt many of us could do the same.

I say we wait another 10 years and see what things are like in Iraq then.
If it’s a paradise on Earth and a prime getaway destination for all those AIG executives who are still fleecing taxpayers with their multimillion-dollar annual bonuses, then you might — emphasis on might — be able to declare the invasion a success.
If Iraq and the rest of the Middle East have descended into a war-ravaged landscape of fundamentalist hate and destruction, somebody with a long memory better be around to dump the blame for it squarely in the laps of Bush, Cheney and the rest of their neo-con cronies.
In other words, it’s way too early to start handing out praise for our dearly departed 43rd president. Do us all a favor and put the post-presidency spin machine in park for a while.

There’s no “tough decisions” to be made when you put ideological cronies in place who are “yes men” to your way of thinking but who don’t have the smarts to do the job right. Considering that was how GW handled his war from the get go, that’s also how he should be remembered. If anyone finally pulls his fat out of the fire by way of history, it will be generals like Petraeus, a guy far better at recognizing what it was going to take to turn things around in Iraq. Had Petraeus been listened to a whole lot sooner, Iraq wouldn’t be a sore issue for most Americans. GW, no, the generals, yes.

I give it a 0% chance.

In my opinion. all presidents and governors surround themselves with people of like ideas and goals. Looking back Clinton, Bush 41, Regan, Carter all did it. It still comes down to the person at the top gets the blame/fame.

The most inept President ever on the face of the planet.
hmoffsuite on March 27 at 4:45 p.m.
wheels. Worse than Carter?
Stickman on March 28 at 5:50 p.m.
Again, put yourself in that seat. If I was there, I’m sure most of you would hate me as well.
