Huckleberries Hears …

… that friends of former LCDC chairman Charlie Nipp are planning a “friendly roast” at Cricket’s  “to let him know how much his contribution to the well-being of our community is appreciated and valued!” The roast is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8. In an e-mail intercepted by a Berry Picker, Nipp supporters are encouraged to “share this with other folks you know who might also like to ‘accentuate the positive!’” Nipp, of course, has been in the cross-hairs of anti-LCDC activists and the CdA Press as a result of an AG investigation into alleged conflicts of interest that turned up no criminal wrongdoing.

Reputation is a precious possession, easily lost. When I was growing up I was taught how important it is to protect your reputation. Too bad Mr. Nipp now needs to have ceremonies at local busniess meetings and public displays of affection at “roasts” in order to repair his damaged reputation.

A shorter, more meaningful route for Mr. Nipp’s damage control might be to show more importance to the criticism of how LCDC operates and his role as chairman of the real estate committee, which of all the committees reports only in closed executive session, an abuse of the exemption provided for in the Open Meeting Law.

I suspect they’ll be singing folk songs about Charlie Nipp one day.
