Huckleberries Online

Wild Card/Thursday — 3/26/09

Before I get into the evening headlines, I’d like to point out that Huckleberries Online has a new blogroll — devoted to Spokane area bloggers (in the right rail). Next week, I’ll explore possible ways to highlight bloggers on the blogroll. Mebbe some sort of roundup a coupla times a week. We’ll see. Also, I’m taking tomorrow off. So I’m looking for a guest host for HBO. Now, for the evening headlines: Obama’s planning to send additional troops to Afghanistan here. Alaska’s Mount Redoubt is still erupting here. New York Times has cut jobs and salaries here. U.S. Senate votes to drastically expand AmeriCorps here. And the Wild Card remains in play …

I guess I did my Rip Van Winkle act and the senate has nothing better to do than worry about college football #1’s. Budgets all taken care of, wasteful spending curbed, economy taken care of, what a bunch of useless idiots.

Thanks for the heads up, D. You’re a cut above the rest. :)

Toad & you other Spokane area bloggers should check out the new “Spokane Area Blogs” part of the HBO Blogosphere in the right rail. I’ve spent the last hour or so putting it together. It’ll be a work in progress, as are all the blog rolls.

okay, i’m a little more relaxed. I saw myself both in the HBO Blogosphere and in the Spokane Area blogs. I live in Spokane and have for most of my life, but I am from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Cool! I’m in there twice too :) (I suppose that will change once DFO cleans up the duplicates.)

    Hey - I was born in Moscow. . .

“Alaska’s Mount Redoubt is still erupting here”

The GOP, in a stunning show of stupidity, actually allowed it’s token and up and comer, Piyush Jindal to say in the all important GOP response:

“their (Democrats) legislation is larded with wasteful spending…and $140 million for something called “volcano monitoring.” Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.”

“volcano monitoring”, in scary quotes? Like there’s no such thing and/or it’s only cartoonish value?

Who’s the buffoon now, Piyush “Bobby” Jindal?

Oh, and btw, it’s only $14M for volcano monitoring, but you know, these idiot Republican hacks can never keep their numbers straight.

A slight 10X exaggeration, who’ll even notice? It’s that scary “science” stuff undertaken by a bunch dirty freaking hippies, bookworms, nerds, and “Ivory Tower” geeks who can’t get a real job drilling for oil or running clearcut operations.

Every true patriot knows God controls when and where a volcano is going to erupt, so how DARE we challenge God’s works?

“Volcano monitoring”. Just another God-less Democrat liberal money-wasting heathen attempt at disrespecting the Will of God.

And now Mt. Redoubt, the name itself a grand irony, is erupting, spewing a 12 mile high cloud of ash, and threatening the citizenry, commerce, and OMG!, the oil business in Alaska:

JBelle: Someday, we will meet and have a good time.

  • JBelle on March 26 at 9:23 p.m.

Indeed we will, Stickman. I look forward to it.

  • Stickman on March 26 at 9:28 p.m.

JBelle: Such a good thought as that, one can only hope. Life is so short, and fleeting at best. We’ll see.

Probably the one thing I hate the most, is being uninformed. I pride myself on reading the paper from cover to cover every day, (S/R of course) So when I cruised into the VA parking lot today in Spokane, I noticed the American flag hanging at half mast. As I drove north past the naval reserve center, there again was the flag flying at half mast.

When I got home, I scanned all of the usual news sources. Nada. So I finally have to ask for help. Who died?

  • sibulsky on March 27 at 10:30 a.m.

    Herb…from access.wa.gov

“Gov. Chris Gregoire today directed that flags at all Washington state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Thursday, March 26, in memory of U. S. Army Pfc. Court D. Haugen, 23, of Wenatchee, who died March 11 in Germany. He was returning to Ft. Lewis after serving 15 months in Iraq. ”

Thanks, Steve. Now I won’t have to go crazy … at least from that.
