Memphis Loss TKO’s Obama’s Bracket

So long to one of President Barack Obama’s picks for the Final Four. The president’s NCAA tournament bracket took a hit Thursday night when Memphis lost to Missouri 102-91. Obama also missed with Duke’s loss to Villanova, and slipped to the bottom half of the 5-plus million fans who entered ESPN.com’s pool. Earlier in the evening, Obama won with Connecticut and Pittsburgh. When the Huskies and Panthers moved into the regional finals, it also boosted the president’s picks to the top 40 percent overall. Then came Memphis’ loss. The president had Memphis losing in the national semifinals to Louisville. He has North Carolina beating Pitt in the other semi/AP.

Question: Obama (shown with North Carolina coach Roy Williams above) picked North Carolina to win the NCAA tournament in his tournament bracket. How do you feel about that. And how are you doing with your tournament bracket?

Obviously, Obama’s pick of NC is an obvious affront to all Zag fans, and really to all Northwesterners and Catholics everywhere. I am sure he is doing it just to be mean and show contempt for everyone west of the Rockies. None of them should vote for Barack in the next election. None whatsoever. Really. This means YOU!

Well, my bracket was Opening Day Crap, thanks to the Pac 10, who have never earned my loyalty, don’t deserve my loyalty, but still somehow summon my loyalty, damn them to Southern California!

But somehow my bracket was still standing, wobbly but still standing, until last night. Jesus Mary and Joseph! I still say taking Memphis and Duke is like going deep into Microsoft and GE; just who could have known?!

But: I think I am still in the hunt because John Austin mentioned that he was going with Pitt to take the whole Mary Ann when I was still making my final choices. I pulled up Pitt’s stats and those of my other FF’s and was easily able to poke Pitt into the lone line. And when Pitt wins, I’d like Austin to take a look at my portfolio….

I went to the gym today and was doing leg presses which afforded me an opportunity to think about that dumb Duke and their final destruction at Villanova’s hand. It occurred to me that they had only squeaked by Texas, which at the time, seemed like one of those near “any game, on any day ” moments. Now I realize the NCAA over-seeded Duke. What a colossal misfire this team was!

Stupid, freaking Memphis is all I have to say.

    Pup and Madre:
Instead of going to the gym, I went shopping. I got some freakin` sweet new shoes which I did not need. Then I took my 78 year-old mother to Skippers for all you can eat fish&chips.
I know this thread is supposed to be about basketball. Or Obama. Or John Austin and Mary Ann (does Deena know?) or maybe about brackets which are very handy for hanging cupboards and mounting pictures.
And I did have a point when I started typing…
    Um.
    Go Zags!

Never done a bracket, go figure. I pick either Louisville or NC, as they have the game down. I have actually not watched a game so far, as I think there are more important things in life. I do watch Sportscenter of course, for the final scores. Will we remember any of this next year, I doubt it.
