i’m curious as to the discussion that the UI President finalist have had with the SBE…is it just about money (I’m sure this is in large part) or is it truly about the vision for the university? I’m particular concerned about this quote: “that our distinct visions for the role, scope, and future of the University of Idaho were not the right fit at this time.” What could be the discrepancy, what does the SBE want to do, turn the UI into a junior college? For UI alums and I hope, for Idahoan in general (given what a huge economic engine the university is for your poor little state), this an depressing turn of events when you can’t even recruit someone away from MSU?

Given the Republican-dominated legislature’s anti-education bias, I wouldn’t want the job either. Can you imagine how frustrating it’d be to have a couple of insurance salesman (Goedde and Nonini) tell you what’s best for higher ed in Idaho?

I’d love to see U of I get a well-qualified president hired soon. It is an important and critical component to our state’s future. Frankly, its been rudderless and hamstringed since the scandal-ridden Hoover years—much to the detriment of our fair state.

Full disclosure: I’m a BSU grad who loves the U of I, except for one Saturday every fall.

I doubt that the SBE would be so inept if it was Coach Peterson’s vacancy they were trying to fill… Then again, I wouldn’t want to work in the Idaho education system either…
