To Tweet Or Not To Tweet

When Holli High broke her wrist snowboarding at Bogus Basin in January, she immediately sent a text message on Twitter to tell friends about the fall. Soon after, there was another message - a “Tweet” - from a nurse at the hospital who is one of High’s friends from the social networking Web site. “She met up with me in the ER and gave me an icepack,” High said. Meanwhile, Ryan Woodings used his BlackBerry to snap and post photos of High as she sat in the hospital. Boise-area users of Twitter - now most popular with working adults age 35 to 49, according to Nielsen Online - say it has broadened their circle of friends, enhanced existing relationships and even led a few to find love/Katy Moeller, Idaho Statesman. I use twitter to promote my blog by announcing upcoming posts. I also put up (what I hope) are witty quotes, one liners, or jokes that might just entice someone to come on over to my blog and see what’s cookin’ there.
Since I wouldn’t mind at all getting a part time radio gig again, I have connected the thing with blip.fm and I throw up songs as the mood strikes and/or if they seem apropos to my latest posting/current events/whatever. I also use it to network with others. Only a handful of my followers/followees are people I actually know in real life.
What I DON’T do with twitter is announce my blow by blow daily activities. That’s what facebook is for.

We had to get Tweeting to get Meghann’s Duncan reports. That’s the best use I’ve seen made of it, so far. I tweet, but I’m not sure why. The funniest thing is I have a Tweetbox on my blog, so in a way, I’m blogging to my blog which is read mostly by my family, folks I see every day, tho I still have my visitors from the ‘ho. (Thanks Otis!). So I’m basically sending notes to my wife, through Cupertino, California, or wherever. Seems like things are getting more complicated all the time.

“Question: Why do/don’t you use Twitter?”

    I don’t use it because I don’t have a cell phone.
