The Senate is assembled and ready to go this morning, but is awaiting the amendments to HB 372, the new election consolidation bill, before starting. Amending that bill is among the items on senators’ agenda for their morning session today. “We’re continuing to try and work,” said Senate Majority Leader Bart Davis, R-Idaho Falls. Asked if he’d heard anything from his counterparts across the Capitol Annex, Davis said, “Not a word.” The House is tentatively scheduled to go back into session around noon today, after unsuccessfully attempting last Wednesday night to unilaterally adjourn the legislative session/Betsy Russell, Eye On Boise. Question: Any guesses re: how the showdown between Gov. Otter and House GOP leaders will play out this week?

“Any guesses re: how the showdown between Gov. Otter and House GOP leaders will play out this week?”—Butch has defined his endgame as a tax deferred for years down the road, about as much as he can give and still save face. The House’s endgame is a one finger salute to the Governor. Denney is a lame duck and Moyle thinks he can go all the way to reelection and the Speaker’s chair running against the governor’s proposal to raise taxes. While I think the House is the bad guy, I think Otter has more to lose politically. Ironically both sides are ideologically convinced that God is on their side. I see Otter caving since he seems the most rational, which isn’t saying much unless compared to House leadership.

The pressing question of the day: Did, or did not, the house show up at noon?
