Don’t forget to vote in today’s HBO Poll, which asks whether the city was right in pursuing a lawsuit against Kathy Sims and Concerned Taxpayers of Kootenai County over campaign finance violations here. Also, I’d like to know if you might like to stage an impromptu summer event on June 20, hosted by Taryn and Bent at Taryn’s place in Spirit Lake. (See evening post.) Now, with US stocks climb to a four-month high here and Rupert Murdoch declaring the worst is over here, I’ll re-play this Wild Card and get out of here …

On this day in 1961, my parents, siblings, and I were sitting on the floor of our new home, not yet moved in, bare of furniture. We had a radio as our only possession - as we were just being introduced to our house. The program was a replay of the Hindenburg crash and I will never, ever forget the announcer, Herbert Morrison, relating the events in horrifying detail, ending with the heart-wrenching and grief-stricken, “Oh, the humanity.” I was 12 and wept over that.

How ironic that on World Asthma Day, I received an email saying that an old friend had died due to this disease. He struggled all his life with asthma, finally undergoing a lung transplant last year.
My youngest son has asthma, but thankfully seems to have outgrown it.

Obama is a lot more stupid than even I thought he was. Insofar as running his administration is concerned. Lately it was the NYC flyover with Airforce One that cost $338,000 and scared all the New Yorkers. Now, they are suggesting to Israel that if they give up their nukes, maybe Iran won’t continue to continue the development of theirs. Ya, right.

Sisyphus on May 06 at 12:19 p.m.
I’m so happy your egalitarian spirit causes you to continue to get your news from cults. You have so much in common.
What nukes? Israel has never admitted to having nukes. The first step in solving a problem is recognizing that you have one. God forbid we should do something about nuclear proliferation. North Korea and Iran have the technology because Pakistan sold it to them. And for that Bush greatly increased foreign aid and continued to allow Pakistan to shelter bin Laden and al Qaeda. How do you suppose Israel got nukes? How’s your stupid meter operating these days?

My stupid meter is working just fine. Using it to measure the activities of the Obama administration. Keeping it very busy, btw. You haven’t commented on the flyover matter. Spose you didn’t see a problem with good judgement there, huh?
Sisyphus on May 06 at 12:51 p.m.
Really hmoff, you might check the calibration for relativity and relevance. It seems to operate only one way and pegs out on minor things.
The Air Force One snafu really isn’t on the radar. But according to google it appears your news sources like Fox are still breathlessly talking about it. It looks like the mistakes were made at the FAA and the Mayor’s office. As for Obama, I noticed this statement:
“‘It was a mistake, as was stated … and it will not happen again,’ Obama said. He has let his anger over the incident be known, and has ordered a probe into what happened.”
Given the abject refusal of Bush to acknowledge a single mistake in his eight years in office I’m thinking the country is finally in good hands. Personal responsibility and all that.
hmoffsuite on May 06 at 12:56 p.m.
Sis. He is getting a lot of practice at this admitting mistakes thing. Must get easier as you go along.
toadman on May 06 at 12:58 p.m.
yeah.. I think I’m with Sisy on this one hmo.. dude.. it’s petty, and as usual, the morons are making more of it than necessary. Obama’s already expressed his sentiments about it…and I believe him.

“He is getting a lot of practice at this admitting mistakes thing.”
Maybe he can teach Bush, et. al. a few things, eh? Seems they were pretty much incapable of mistakes during their reign of stupidity, right? They were certainly incapable of admitting anything.
Good grief hmo, get your head out and join the rest of us in the real/rational world.

While you’re accumulating costs can you let me know how much it costs to operate the USS Abraham Lincoln off the coast, get a humongous banner that says ‘Mission Accomplished’ on it, and have the military fly the president out to it with all the attendant media to give a self congratulating but erroneous speech?

Um, how is that an example of Obama’s “stupidity”? From what I read, it was the action of the Dept of Defense, and was not on Obama’s orders. He’s been very vocal in his displeasure about the incident, which sounds more like bureaucratic ineptitude than anything else.
What other petty nonsense would you like to pin on Obama? My seasonal allergies?

“What other petty nonsense would you like to pin on Obama? My seasonal allergies?”
Hey man, they’re just copying what I used to do with Bush, which is blame everything from the daily weather, to the paper cut I got at work on him…the problem is, some people don’t understand parody. Parody takes abstract non-black and white thought, I think, which is difficult for right wing conservatives, most of the time.
hmoffsuite on May 06 at 1:49 p.m.
Actually, I find it entertaining to post something and then watch you guys all scramble to discredit the item or me individually. It is very predictable and amazing. The less significant the matter, the better responses you all come up with.
Sisyphus on May 06 at 3:59 p.m.
I felt rather embarrassed for the kids in grade school who would say outlandish things, usually repeating crazy things they heard at home, and then when they’re corrected with facts, or even mildly rebuked for hurting someone’s feelings with an insensitive or ignorant comment, they would say “just kidding” in a halfhearted effort to disclaim responsibility for it. But for everything they had corrected, they might say three more upon which they weren’t corrected, and thus went through life thinking these things were true or acceptable. Eventually they’d get an un-credible reputation with people who had regular interaction with them, but they’d eventually find someone new or just as ignorant. Quite sad really.
hmoffsuite on May 06 at 4:25 p.m.
Sis. I actually have no downside here. As most of the frequent posters here are aligned with the far liberal left, most of what I post is simply objected to, mocked and ridiculed. Or, I am attacked as being a “wing nut”, simply “spewing Hannity and Rush”, and besides, “Bush was worse”. etc. etc. The paranoia associated with the defense of Obama here is astounding. Any actual intelligent discussion of an item that I may have posted is simply not in the cards. Quite sad really.

You guys blow this off as being just an insignificant error. Which it is. The troubling part is that that same Dept of Defense are the ones with their finger on the red button, aren’t they? Its ALL Obama’s responsibility now. Goes with the job.
toadman on May 06 at 4:45 p.m.
“Its ALL Obama’s responsibility now. Goes with the job.”
Which is, indeed, why he was so pissed off about the incident, I’m sure. As for the DoD, old habits die hard, I’m sure.

Hi all! Mark your calendars for June 20. Bent and I are co-hosting an event at my new studio digs in Spirit Lake. He’ll be serving up some homebrew and BBQ fare and I’ll have some great deals on portraits for kids, families and pets. More details to come … I just wanted to make sure everyone saves the date. Cheers!

Arch_Druid on May 06 at 8:14 p.m.
Let me post a little matter that I think is relevant. On other blog forums owned by the S-R Obama becomes a favored whipping boy for what ever, or lacking legitimacy because of what ever. So let me express this hypothetical. The reason why you complain about Obama so loudly is: 1. Your favored candidate, pick one (Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, etc.) lost to McCain during the GOP primary races.
2. The voters decided against giving the ideological extremes the GOP nomination.
3. The voters got extremely tired of extremist ideological ads run by the GOP from the National Committee on down, esp. when they were already drowning in personal debt, lost jobs, lost homes, etc. And so, they decided to vote 54% for the guy who wasn’t Senator McCain and gave a 365 electoral college vote to then Senator Obama. Not even GW did so well in 2004.
4. But instead of complaining about the “stupid choice” they made to elect Obama as president, complain about the man who now occupies the White House.
5. Summary, eating sour grapes.

@hmoff: When you start a post with, “Obama is a lot more stupid than even I thought he was.” and then whine that you’re always attacked for anything you post, it rings a bit hollow.
If you’re looking for looking for intelligent discussion perhaps you should lead by example.

We’ve all heard the saying:’if the lil’ woman isn’t happy, then nobody in the house is happy’.What about the old man who also, occupies the house? What if he isn’t completely happy?
Sometimes, I think women take long term relationships for granted thinking they have things sewn-up at home and that love will conquer all.We still have to try and make our significant
others happy, regardless of the number of years spent in that relationship.
