JF: Invasive Species Sticker? Pshaw

As reader Art Seamans pointed out in a letter on this page Monday, however reasonable it may be to charge boaters for the cost of fighting invasive species, the mechanism for collecting the fees is anything but well-thought-out. Rather than building on the existing registration system for powerboats, the law requires all boaters to make a separate sticker purchase. For in-state powerboaters, the cost is $10. For out-of-state powerboaters, it is $20. And for canoeists, rafters and other users of human-powered vessels longer than 10 feet, it is $5. Where are the stickers available? To date, only at the Parks and Recreation Department in Boise, from which they may be bought online or by mail. There are as yet no local vendors/Jim Fisher, Lewiston Tribune. More here.

Question (for boaters): Do you plan to buy an invasive species sticker to comply with the new law and help curtail quagga mussels?

I would but I don’t need to. All my vessels are under ten feet. I’m still concerned this is too little too late.

I intend to buy stickers for my boats and had actually been wondering where to get them. They should be available at all Marinas, I would think. And where are they to be placed? Do they intend to ticket boaters without them? On the water or at the launching areas?

Not no but hell no, where did they come up with that ratt poop? Who came up with that. It is nothing more then the non motorized registration law in disguise. What really gets me going is the stickers are only available at the parks and rec departments. Guess where the money is going? To the parks and rec depts, guess how much of it is going to be spent on invasive species, very little I imagine, get your public records requests out folks and start asking questions. The should have Fish and Game sell the $10 stickers and comp F and G a buck for doing it.
