North Idaho College English Instructor and author of “The Gathering Place: A History of North Idaho College” Fran Bahr will host a book signing from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hastings in Coeur d’Alene. All of my college career was at NIC including sattelite classes from U of I. I had three classes with Fran including one where I sang during a presentation about the underground railroad. She was quite impressed—by the fact that I did it, not necessarily by my singing. :)

Before transferring to Wazzu, I spent my first year at NIC. I have great memories there … and Fran Bahr was without doubt my favorite teacher. She provided excellent instruction in my English class way back in 1983. And I fell in love with that red hair! Glad she’s still there helping students.

Very, very, very important ot me. I am an alum and the Board Chair. I love the college for all of the opportunites, programs, life skills, and the academic rigor the faculty and staff provide to students of all ages and backgrounds. NIC is 75 years old this year and there are many people in the community that can celebrate their success due to their college education at NIC.

I strongly believe in the vision statement of our community college.

North Idaho College will be …

A comprehensive community college, a regional leader in an integrated education system, and a catalyst for positive change.
A student-centered institution that embraces innovation and flexibility in response to community needs.
The first choice of students seeking an accessible and affordable quality education.
A caring, supportive learning community where the principles of equality are modeled and promoted.
An institution dedicated to scholarship, personal growth, and lifelong learning. :
