Senate OKs Driver’s License Fee Hike

The Senate has voted 28-5 in favor of HB 334, the bill to raise DMV administrative fees, for things like title certificates and driver’s licenses, by $13.1 million a year. Sen. Mike Jorgenson, R-Hayden Lake, said he was unhappy that the fees “will be imposed for the most part on Idahoans and not spread to visitors,” unlike gas taxes. But Sen. Question: Do you agree with Sen. Jim Hammond that we should pay higher driver’s licenses fees to offset the service that we’re getting?

    Interesting - we (law firm) just got notified that filing fees in Spokane County are going up from $42 to $62 for the first page (for Deeds of Trust, etc.) effective July 26. 47% higher.

    One has to go with Jorgenson on that topic, I would rather have Idaho “users” paying the way instead of Idaho drivers.
