Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. In the news: The official who okayed the Air Force One jet flyover that terrified New York has resigned here. And the TGIF Wild Card is in play …

Wow, Marmie. Is it a real problem there? So far, we have only two known cases here in Spokane.

  • Kendramama on May 08 at 9:54 a.m.

By virtue of this being the Wild Card, I just wanted to say hello to everyone- I know I’ve sorta dropped out of the blogging scene for the last coupla months, and hopefully didn’t worry anyone. Considering my past, I could see why some eyebrows may have been raised. But rest assured, all is well as far as that goes- I’m still drug-free and slogging away at the life of raising an extremely active 2-year-old, mostly on my own as my hubby works out of town during the week.
Not to get too personal, but I just have had one helluva case of the blues for what seems like forever now… no particular reason why- I mean, you’d think everything’d be just ducky, ya know? But it’s even gotten to the point where I’m considering counseling, medication, or maybe both. Dunno yet. I still have the support of a great church and my family, but part of this depression deal makes me withdraw even more from everyone who seems oh-so-willing to help. Guess that’s the bad part of being off dope for a few years: you actually have to FEEL stuff!
Anyway, I’ve decided to make a conscious effort to start maintaining Soul Doubt again, using that as an outlet for all this junk in my head, and checking in here again. I swear, my computer keyboard has even gotten dusty! Yes, dusty!
So hopefully if anyone has any pointers or even a “been there, done that” comment, let me know, ok? I missed all y’all Hucksters!

  • marmitetoasty on May 08 at 9:55 a.m.

Nope JeanieS its not really a problem as such…… not many cases, but a family did come home from a holiday in America last week with swine flu which they pick up there….

But when these international flu’s and worldwide disease are around, everyone always gets a booklet from our Government telling us about it and what to do…..

Kendramama, I have been thinking of you the past few days. It’s the winter doldrums. It sure doesn’t lift people’s spirits when it’s the middle of May and you have your space heater as your shadow. And 2-year-olds can zap the energy right out of you. :) That’s why they have all that energy – they get it from their parents. Hopefully it really will warm up and we will actually have spring, maybe even before we hit June. Wonders never cease. I’ll be checking your blog – I love your writing. Big hugs to you!!!!

So I slept in this morning and rushed out of the house after my shower and forgot my Blackberry. Now, I’ve never considered myself to be addicted to my “crackberry” but the more I go through the day realizing that “I need to check my schedule” or “whats that phone number” that its all on my BlackBerry.

Luckily I’m an AT&T retailer and thanks to the benefits of SIM technology I was able to activate a new SIM card on one of my store’s loaner phones so I’m not disconnected for voice calls - and I can put the updated SIM in my BlackBerry when I get home tonight.

Question: How connected are you with your cell phone? Do you feel lost without it?

I think when someone becomes a ‘turncoat’ and leaves their party hanging like Arlen Specter did, that person ought to be tarred and feathered. He shouldn’t be rewarded with a chairmanship or re-election.This traitor should be ‘blessed’ with a thread where all the commenters and his former constituents, ridicule and scorn him. He’s only true to himself and no one else and I hope he enjoyed Obamas Super Duper Bowl Party, because that might be the only one he attends, you Benedict Arnold.

  • sibulsky on May 08 at 11:17 a.m.

Here’s a wild card question: What’s with the flaggers at every stoplight on US 95, just standing around all day? The work’s done at night! What a boring job…probably pays well, tho!

  • Charlie on May 08 at 11:54 a.m.

If “Snarlin Arlen” did it the way Phil Gramm did it, resigned as a Democrat and ran as a Republican in a special election and won, that I can respect. Specter did what was politically expedient for Arlen, nobody else. He may loose a lot of respect from all concerned!

Glad to see you are still around and well Kendramama, have faith!

  • florined on May 08 at 12:34 p.m.

Kendramama, I HAVE missed you and your unique perspective on things that come up here. And, I hope you will seek some counseling. I think everybody should seek some counseling! It can have amazing results. Depression is a real thing, sometimes not just “the blues.” Don’t play around with it. Get expert opinion. And keep posting (she said, selfishly.)

  • marmitetoasty on May 08 at 4:24 p.m.

Can I just say before I bugger off to bed, seeing as its almost 12.30am here now…..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOADIE TO YOU AND YOUR LAD TODAY…… know you are in my thoughts….. love ya..

I applaud Obama for his actions on the NYC photo shoot. This means it was a serious lesson for the WH.

    By CHRISTOPHER CONKEY

WASHINGTON - The White House official responsible for the April 27 Air Force One flight over New York City resigned Friday, and an internal review of the incident identified numerous miscues inside the White House surrounding the incident.

In a resignation letter submitted to President Barack Obama on Friday, White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera said the controversy over the photo op “has made it impossible for me to effectively lead” and “has become a distraction to the important work you are doing as president.”

  • Nick_Adams on May 08 at 4:43 p.m.

    Thanks for the post, hmoff.

As a side note, the internal review of the matter was headed up by Jim Messina, one of Obama’s assistant chiefs of staff and a Boise High Grad.

    Accountability. How refreshing.

  • hmoffsuite on May 08 at 4:51 p.m.

    Nick >>> “Accountability. How refreshing”

I agree. It is hard to come by in government. Accountability, that is.

  • hmoffsuite on May 08 at 6:29 p.m.

Well …. that didn’t take long. The Mariners fall out of first place in the div, that is. Getting beat 5-0 right now in the 4th. Lost 4 in a row and this one tonight doesn’t look good. It was good while it lasted. (did I mention I am sort of a fair wheather fan?)

Tarred and feathered? What a wimp. They should be shot by firing squad.

  • hhuseland on May 08 at 10:34 p.m.

Alas, but the cost of tar these days has gone up more than 50% and feathers? forget it. The animal rights people have made real feathers a rare commodity.Since we are all trapped in the politically correct mode, Feathers are out, and the cost of tar is up due to the federally funded road repair program, part of the stimulus program.

It appears that the best we can do is to just allow the poor fellow to quietly disappear, as he apparently will confuse the voters to the point that he might not win either primary. Such is life in the fast lane, Arlen.

Kage: “This traitor should be ‘blessed’ with a thread where all the commenters and his former constituents, ridicule and scorn him. ”

It’s late, but I must point out that you’re getting running for office mixed up with being a senator. The people you think are mad at Specter are not his “former constiutents,” They remain his constiuents, as are the rest of the people of Pennsylvania.

  • JIMMYMAC on May 08 at 10:53 p.m.

Just got back from the opening of the Kroc Center. Tonight’s opening was for donors. The Coeur Group, of which I am a member, served as tour guides and ushers for tonight’s festivities. All I have to say is that we are blessed beyond belief with this community center. It will serve such a wonderful purpose for everyone. I sincerely and wholeheartedly urge any of the critics to go visit it with an open mind and heart because the energy and feeling you get that lives will be touched is overwhelming. Thank you Ray and Joan Kroc, Everyone at the Salvation Army (Major John and Lani Chamness in particular), Mayor Bloem, City Leaders, Jack Riggs and all other volunteers for your vison, hearts and spirit.

Kendra, I live with bi-polarity every single day, and I struggle with it every day. According to a pamphlet I read, most male bi-polars tend to feel anxiety, while the women tend to feel depression. It might be wise for you to seek a medication; in fact, I’d encourage it. Basically, your brain isn’t making enough of the stuff it takes to adequately cope in this world, and thru meds, you’re supplying what your body/mind needs. Finally, when you’re having a rotten day, just think, “this too shall pass and I’ll be okay”. A little four-letter word I think is very important is “hope”. For, without hope, nothing gets done. Hope that helps…

  • Escapee on May 09 at 2:55 p.m.

The Let It Be album was the last album Released by the Beatles, but Abbey Road was the last they’d recorded. Basically, the group had fought and bickered all the way thru Let It Be, and at the time, the group hated it so much they didn’t want to release it. Later on, United Artists, who had film rights to the ‘Let It Be’ sessions, wanted a soundtrack LP put out simultaneously, so that’s the reason for that.

“I Me Mine” was finished in the studio in January 1970 and was the last-ever Beatles session. John Lennon didn’t even appear on that song. Originally the song only ran 1:34, but producer Phil Spector got hold of the tapes, and ‘repeated’ one verse, stretching out the song to 2:25. And finally, even though Phil Spector was condemned for putting all those violins on “The Long and Winding Road”, Phil said he knew that was going to be the last Beatles’ single, and he really wanted to make it beautiful. And from where I sit today, Phil did a pretty good job.

Of course, Phil Spector is facing another big production, but instead of a studio, it’s in a Court Of Law. Ack.
