The KCSD has released the name of the suicide victim who jumped from the Veterans Memorial Bridge Friday. But the SR has decided not to print the name, as is our general policy re: suicides. Now, onward. On this day in history: in 1858, Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd state. In 1927, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded. In 1904 Salvador Dali was born. In 1981, legendary musician Bob Marley died. In the news today, a US soldier goes berserk, killing 5 fellow soldiers in a conseling center in Baghdad here. And the Monday Wild Card is in play.

Still no ID on the suicide Friday? I’ve been thinking about that poor family all weekend.

I met Bob’s son Stephen in Spokane last year. RIP, Bob.

An acquaintance jumped to her death from that bridge about eight years ago. It’s sad every time I pass by. My heartfelt sympathies go to this man’s family.
OrangeTV on May 11 at 11:31 a.m.
I know the family of the May 8 suicide victim, and I’m not sure if they’re wanting to release his name at this time. I’m not sure if they release names for these kinds of things on the KCSD website or not. I’d imagine an obituary will come soon and that should put any questions to rest. What an all-around depressing weekend. I need to walk Tubbs this afternoon and breathe deep and re-focus.

DFO-have they ID’d the contractor from Post Falls who was killed at Spokane Raceway last week yet?

Nick, I believe that gal was a former Miss North Dakota.
On another lighter note to follow up Bent’s post, check out the first review on this T-Shirt at Amazon.com

Top notch humor in my book.

Actually all the reviews are pretty funny CB. Also I especially liked the last item for sale under the category of ‘Customers Who Viewed This Item Also Viewed’.
I couldn’t get Bent’s link to work.

You’re correct about the Miss ND title. Quite a beautiful and smart young woman. I believe she holds masters degrees from both Cambridge and Northwestern.
I gotta agree about that review—hilarious.

Hah! I didn’t see that Sis. Great catch. I also saw the Zubaz pants. Now WHO would wear those…

Just want to say the SR is loading sooo slowly that I tend to nod off while waiting. I’m trying not to nap at my desk anymore, so I’d appreciate a head’s up when things are moving again.

take the %2520 out and replace with a space. Or replace the %25 with a %20 also.
The %20 is computer lingo for space.

Looks like the S-R server is adding the “25” in the link for some reason. Just remove it in the address bar after you click.

I thought I was the only one having this problem today. I can’t remember if the old blogware loaded more quickly or not. But today has been simply ridiculous. Sorry.

Huckleberries has learned that former Councilman Chris Copstead’s wife, Debbie, died Sunday after a 3-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Please keep Chris and his family in your thoughts and prayers in the days to come.
JeanieSpokane on May 11 at 4:47 p.m.
Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) is so insidious. I am noticing more and more people - mostly women - dying of this. It is horrible! I have a friend with Parkinson’s and it’s awful to watch the deterioration – but surgery helps delay the symptoms. Not so with ALS. You are just helpless and have to watch your loved won just slip away.

Me: I guess I always assume everyone knows where I live, as most have been by over the years. I live on the corner of 10th and Mountain, right across the street from the entrance to the East Tubbs Hill parking lot. Make it the weekends in the afternoons these days, as I am forced to work for at least 6 more months till I can collect my meager SS. But, I’ll take it and not complain, as it will allow me to do what I love, which is making fine walking sticks and giving them away. I gave away over 25 this past weekend alone. Hope to see you soon.

I did 24.5 miles today for bike to work week! It wa spretty windy at times but I didn’t do too bad for an out-of-shape former smoker …
I hope the weather tomorrow is not as bad as they say it’s going to be. It’s supposed to be 40 mph winds, but next week we are going to be in the high 70s and 80s.

Yeah, Spokelooneh, I work in downtown spokane. This morning I carpooled into Sullivan with my wife and rode to a meeting at Centerplace in valley. When I got out, it was raining pretty hard, so I rode to the Mirabeau Park n Ride and took the bus to downtown. Then I rode to work from the plaza. Still got five miles or so — despite the weather. Then it cleared up so I rode a six mile loop at lunch and then to meeting on foothills, and then took the bus to liberty lake after work and rode home to Post Falls. Then I had to walk to the dogs…I’m going to be sore tomorrow.

OH thank god. You explained the gravitar. It made no sense to me, and, well, could be anything. Good that it’s a cat. A sleepy one. Like the S/R servers, obviously. Sleepy.
What, are they outsourced to China or something? You know they have massive server farms in DT Spokane, or Quincy, (where Microsucks, Google data miner, and dying Yahoo) take advantage of high speed fibre and ultra-cheap kilowatt-hours. Just a fast hop, skip, and a jump away.
brentandrews on May 11 at 9:41 p.m.
I got back on Facebook the other day. Everyone around me is on Facebook, plus Idaho friends, high school friends, so many friends some of them are actually not my friends but people I’d rather not see again, so I have to ignore the “suggestion” that I become friends with, for example, this very cute potential girlfriend from middle school who humiliated me in a way I can forgive and forget - but not so much that I want to be friends again, even pretend Facebook friends. Facebook is hogging a lot of my time again. I think about it too much. Especially since I took my blog down to protect myself and my family through the next few months. On Facebook it’s just me and friends and friends of friends, right?
My favorite all-around site on these Internests is Google - it’s my home page and the first place I start looking, when I need something. Google is almost what I imagined the Internet could be, especially since Google Books lets you actually see the pages. Not to mention Google Earth.
I spend a lot of time at HBO too but somehow it never seems like a waste of time. It’s more like living the news as it happens with a few friends. It makes the hard news a lot more palatable, actually. I’m not paying attention to any other news source right now, except Yahoo! with its headlines over my inbox.

If Coeur d’Alene had vampires, they’d all be coming out of Mic n Macs at closing time, looking out into the night for prey, licking their lips a little bit desperately with the night running short … strange, strange little underground pub for New Orleans or Seattle, much less Coeur d’Alene.
Nick_Adams on May 11 at 9:46 p.m.
I’m loathe to criticize technology since I have first-hand knowledge of how tough it is to make things like HBO work. But, Sweet Jesus! If I had a nickel for every time I get an “Internet Explorer cannot display the web page” since the new site was launched, I’d be able to buy a place next to imhoff on Lake CDA.
It may be time for the SR to review blogmeister Ryan’s tech credentials and make sure they’re legit and not from one of Spokane’s famous diploma mill scams.
spokelooneh on May 11 at 10:11 p.m.
@Bent, nice to have the backup in the rain of STA. It’s socialist outfit, but very needed. You are going to try and ride the whole way, I think I heard you say. Very good.
@Brent Facebook is evil. Disengage pronto. And Ryan does have a degree mill IT “diploma”. It’s cheaper that way…

Thanks Stickman - I will try again!!
Very funny - tonight I was getting off the freeway and in the next lane is a red Solstice. There was a man driving it, and the license plate said BeingMe!!! OK - so you’d think that was my car right? Because I’m Me! Anyway I’m driving the one that doesn’t have personalized plates.

My heart goes out to Chris and his family. It’s heartbreaking to think about how much that family has gone through in such a short amount of time. God bless and rest in peace, Debbie Copstead.
