JeanieS: Transplant Journey Begins

I was blithely going through my day, the normal humdrum of filing, typing, cataloging, typing, time entry, bla bla, more typing, and arrived home to the mail: A packet starting with the ominous “The Journey of Transplant Evaluation.” O boy. It’s several pages and forms to fill out to start the process of being evaluated to be placed on a kidney transplant list. I’m half excited about this. Actually I feel too good to really be considered for a transplant. I’ll probably go along like I do in sports - and be the last one on the list. Who knows? Evidently my doctor sent my name in to the transplant center - and also to social security. Did you know that I might be able to get Medicaid?/JeanieS, Nuts & Nonsense. More here.

Question: First, keep JeanieS in your thoughts and prayers as she starts her journey to better health. Now, this question: Do you know anyone who has gone through a kidney transplant?

JeanieS, good luck as you embark on this journey, may it be hopeful and peaceful.

G’Luck to you. You have lots of friends to help you on your journey.

Sure, we know several transplant patients.

My terrific wife Teresa had a liver tx a few years back - it’s working OK. Goes on the fritz once in a while, and the immunosupressant meds are a challenge, but it certainly beats the alternative of assuming room temperature.

Jeanie, thank you for sharing this in such a public way. My hope is that the strange relationship of good friends you’ve never met (!) can help support you. And, I also hope your openness gets people off their butts and becoming registered organ donors. Lives of both friends and strangers literally depend on organ donation.

Jeanie, You’ll be in my prayers through this. You sound so brave and I’m sure that’s going to help you through this ordeal. Please keep us informed as news developes.

it just goes to show how comfortable I am here at HBO. I feel like I am in a cottage on the lake with a cozy fire crackling and we’re all just sitting around, totally relaxed with each other and feeling safe with our feelings. And - yes - I would like to encourage people to become donors.

Of course, then my little imp self comes out and thinks it could be a really nifty plot for a mystery - you know - you put an “x” beside the donor option on your driver’s license and then suddenly you are being stalked for one of your organs because living donor organs are better than cadavar organs. :)

O! That would probably make people run screaming from the room, huh?

    Good luck, JeanieS.

I’ve been a donor for as long as been an option on my driver’s license. For some inexplicable reason, it seems to freak my mom out. As I get older, I gently remind her that given my fast and loose lifestyle, I’m not sure what kind of condition most of my organs will be in at the time of my demise. Oddly, that doesn’t really comfort her.

I know several people with kidney transplants who are doing very well and have been for several years. Donor box is marked on my license and has been for ages - I know you’ll have the strength and support to carry on in whatever act follows next!

May all of the thoughts and prayers from this fine family follow you through whatever you have to go through.

    Good luck ((Jeanie))

Over here one is not placed on the transplant list until they are already on dialasis (sp) and often for many years…..and they have to be right proper poorly to have their name on the list…

Things in doodleland are so different..

My matie had been on dialasis for 3 years before she even got the chance to go on a list….. she had her kidney last year :)

Me matie Nesh is on the liver transplant list…. and has been going down hill fast this past 6 months…… we are just hoping something comes up before time has run out..
