On this day in history: In 1618, Johannes Kepler discovered his harmonics law. In 1970, President Nixon appointed America’s first two female generals. In 1972, Alabama Gov. George Wallace was shot by Arthur Bremer in Laurel, MD. Wallace was paralyzed by the shot. In 1937, singer Trini Lopez was born. We’re in the middle of National Asparagus month. In the news, RNC Chairman Michael Steele says Demos want to take away gun rights here. And the Wild Card for TGIF is in play …

Heh Asparagus.
When I was in high school a candidate magically appeared called “Asparagus” and ran against the perpetual incumbent class president for the Senior Year term.
Asparagus won in a landslide. Since he/she/it was not around to be sworn in the runner up (the former incumbent) was installed in the position.
But boy howdy was there an uproar when “Asparagus” ran.

Digger, how was the Mackenzie River Pizza experience for you?
Digger on May 15 at 10:48 a.m.
Just like every other yuppie pizza joint around. Nothing spectacular about the atmosphere or the food - but maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Service was excellent tho.
Were you there and I didn’t see you or are you just asking based off of my frantic e-mail Saturday night? :-)
OrangeTV on May 15 at 11:09 a.m.
No, I haven’t been there at all yet. Just wondering if your opinion was in line with others who’ve been. And it pretty much is. No one seems to be raving about the place, but no-one’s had any horror stories either. I’ll get around to reviewing it one of these days.
Sometimes I like to give new places a chance to prove they’ll be sticking around awhile before I commit them to ink. I gave Wheat Montana Deli a good review when they opened and then they closed three weeks later.
I just knew Le Piastre on Sherman was cursed so I didn’t bother at all with that one - it was open all of four months before the door was shuttered for good. Let’s hope “Scratch” can do better when they move in.I think that building is haunted by the ghost of Pioneer Pies and it doesn’t any other place to be in there.
The latest one that worries me a bit is the new “upscale” Italian eatery on East Sherman. They’d better be doing something extra fantastic if they’re going to survive in the ghetto. Okay, it’s not really the ghetto, it just has a lot of colorful characters and quaint motels.

OTV, Just an FYI. I tried Grumpys earlier this week, and let’s just say I was less than impressed. In fact, it was the biggest waste of $80 I have experienced in a long, long time.

Dear Circulation Manager:
Once again, my Spokesman-Review was not delivered by 6:30 am and I left my house without a newspaper. If your delivery service in Moscow does not improve, you might as well call yourself an afternoon newspaper, since that’s when I finally get to see the thing.
As I have mentioned in emails and over the phone, your delivery service has gone into the TOILET since you farmed out your delivery to Lewiston Tribune carriers. Closing the Pullman office was a stupid move - over the past 15 years (before changing your deliveries) I can think of only a handful of delivery problems I ever had… but since you switched, the delivery has been reliably crappy.
Are you deliberately trying to lose your Palouse subscribers, because that’s exactly what it seems like. And are you aware that the Moscow Pullman Daily-News has moved to AM delivery? Perhaps it’s finally time to say Goodbye to the Good Paper?
Please - get your act together. You’re digging your own grave! I do not WANT to cancel my subscription - but I want my newspaper on time! EVERY DAY! That’s what I’m paying for, isn’t it?
Thank you.

Kage; I eliminated the post in which you named the suicide victim in the Veterans Memorial Bridge jump. The SR doesn’t name suicide victims, as a general rule. And it’s clear from a thread we had yesterday that the Merry Hucksters don’t want to see in print the names of these tortured souls.
Kage_Mann on May 15 at 12:33 p.m.
Ok, I must have asked the wrong question, to be deleted.
Kage_Mann on May 15 at 12:38 p.m.
Thanks, for the explanation.I read a comment from another thread ( May 9?)where the victims friend named him and provided a link to a sheriffs report which also, named him.So, I thought it was OK.

Kage. How’s the eye buddy? What happened?
Kage_Mann on May 15 at 1:11 p.m.
Sis, I was cutting Juniper trees and had some wood particles in my eye that were apparently, there overnight and I must have rubbed my eye during the night. So, I apparently, scratched my eye and it’s beat red and swollen.Everythings kinda blurry and I can’t read anything outta that eye.I have to remember to wear eyeware when cutting Juniper, because you can get a bad eye infection from that tree. It’s happened before.

Luckily you have six more on your avatar, Kage.

Kage, ain’t you going to the doctor?
Kage_Mann on May 15 at 1:17 p.m.
Thanks, Beth! ;-)
Sis, I just went to the doctor;who is referring me to an opthamologist and I go this afternoon.I need an eye ointment/antibiotic.

Well that’s good. An eye is a terrible thing to waste. I’d hate having to get you a pirate avatar and say ‘avast ye matey’ all the time.

Gotta be good weather fever as the wild card died at 1:38 in the afternoon…

Playing the wild card… Congrats to Trevor Prangley, a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter with CdA ties who just won the MFC Light Heavyweight Belt in a 5-round war. It’s a smaller Canadian organization, not quite UFC status, but still quite an achievement. Congratulations Trevor!
