A hen duck and her 12 ducklings create a parade-like atmosphere as they cross the Lilac Parade route while trying to march to the Spokane River Saturday in downtown Spokane. The ducks are the ones that nested and hatched on a downtown awning where they were watched by banker Joel Armstrong, left, and Crystal Tobeck, right. A group of bank employees, media and bystanders followed the slow walk to the water by the duck family. Story here. And: Slideshow here. (Jesse Tinsley/Spokesman-Review)

That duck story was a teriffic bright in a kick-ass Sunday S-R newspaper. I really enjoyed the quality of the Sunday newspaper this week. My only criticism is that the biz page was wire.

Interesting side note on the “Ammo hard to find” article. Mechanic Man started noticing this about six months ago and has been finding his at garage sales and just this weekend, at a swap meet (car parts) in Monroe, Washington. How weird is this that ammo is in short supply?

i was absolutely CHARMED by all of those duck photos. Look at the photo where they’re all in the water…it actually looks like the Mama Duck is smiling. it’s things like this that restore my faith in the Human Race. Maybe the world isn’t ending after all.
