JeanC: Remedy For Crud: Laratadine

JeanC: I woke up yesterday with a hot scratchy throat and I still have a slight burning sensation in the top of my lungs this morning. Kinda like when I started to get the crud a while back. I am hoping it is just from overdoing it on the outside work on Saturday and allergies. Need to remember to start popping loratadine with the rest of my daily pills :P

Question: Dr. OIiveria (aka, Junior) believes Airborne is nothing more than a placebo. And recommended last night that I opt for Theraflu instead. I still have some stock of Zicam. What do you take to get through a bout with a cold or flu?

Actually my remedy for the crud is liberal applications of rum or whiskey in hot tea with lemon and honey :D

Loratadine is good for my seasonal allergy symptoms.

I agree with Junior - Airborne is useless. None of that stuff works. You’re supposed to tough it out, drink lots of liquids, take Tylenol, go to bed, and the liquids could include some of JeanC’s Remedy. First, build a nest of pillows, a couple books, a hot toddy of above recipe. Sip slowly, read voraciously, and when you feel the need to nap, do so.

I’ve had good results with Zicam. It hasn’t stopped the cold, but I believe it’s lessened the symptoms. My girlfriend and I came down with the same crud earlier this spring. I was aggressive in my use of Zicam whereas she chose to “tough” it out. Mine lasted at least a week less than hers and I wasn’t nearly as debilitated. Of course, it could’ve also been my use of “supplements” like whisky.

    Exactly what JeanC said.
And when I’m sick, the only thing I want to eat is a hot shredded wheat biscuit with butter and a fried egg on top.

I’ve had excellent results with Jack Daniels and generic Nyquil…mostly because when you do that, you sleep through most of your symptoms.

Sweat it out. Nothing clears the head and body of the crud better than some good ole exercise. An hour on the basketball court makes me feel much better.

Hey, I’m pretty impressed with Junior’s recommendation re: TheraFlu. A packet of that in water and within minutes the sinuses clear up and the headache recedes. I’ve been swilling the stuff for only about 18 hours now. So far, pretty good. I’ll let you know tomorrow if the over-the-counter remedy brings me all the way back to life.

“A packet of that in water and within minutes the sinuses clear up and the headache recedes.”

I find that my body reacts this way to TheraFlu also…but I think it’s a psychosomatic effect to KEEP ME FROM DRINKING THAT SUBSTANCE EVER AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS VILE AND NOXIOUS AND LIKELY SPEWED FORTH FROM THE BOWELS OF THE UNDERWORLD WHERE PEOPLE ARE SCREAMING IN TERROR BECAUSE THEY WILL BE SUBJECT TO DRINKING IT FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!!!!

    Still.. it’s a positive effect I suppose.
