Anne Boleyn Wild Card — 5.19.09

On this day in history: In 1536, Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII of England, is beheaded for adultery, treason, and incest. In 1999, “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace” was released in the U.S. It set a new record for opening day sales at 28.5 million. In 1946, Andre the Giant was born. In 1994, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis died in New York at age 64. Today is World Hepatitis Day. Tonight, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen will begin the two-day, head-to-head battle to see which one will become the next “American Idol” here. And your latest Wild Card is in play …

    From today’s Spokesman:

“A man with a history of devil worship who kidnapped girls and forced them into prostitution has moved to Spokane Valley.
Danny “Triple 6” Walter Schertz, 61, has been living at a motel on East Sprague Avenue since arriving from San Antonio on May 1, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.”

I find it unbelievable that I haven’t seen this on one local news channel. I would certainly want to know if this man was any where *near* my neighborhood. I don’t know how to post a link, but his picture is enough to scare the bejeesus out of anyone.

And I’m beyond speechless at my outrage that he’s even walking the streets…

    *rant over*

  • JeanieSpokane on May 19 at 11:15 a.m.

I saw his picture too and shuddered. That is the picture of evil.

One more rant and then I’ll shut up…

If that dam “this is the final notice that your warranty is about to expire” robot calls me one more time, I’m tearing all the phone lines out of the walls. They’ve been calling the office several times a day now for weeks!

Lynne, are you saying there aren’t already devil worshipers in Spokane Valley? I mean.. how much worse is this guy, than your every day friendly run of the mill Spokane Valley corner meth salesman?

*note to self* Spokane and the Dingleberry area sounds like it is filled with very scary people and dangerous animals……. spreading my house hunting further afield LOL

There’s scary people everywhere Mel.. you know that. The trick is how to deal with the buggers.

I’ve heard tell that in Glasgow, Scotland (Nowhere near you, I know), you’re more likely to be beat up or mugged or knifed than in any other city in Europe.

    See? Creeps are everywhere.

Hey DFO, I just wanted to plug our “non-motorized transportation planning workshop” in Post Falls this evening. It will be from 6-8 p.m. at the Trailhead Pavillion in Q’Emiln Park.

KMPO is seeking input on the region’s bike and pedestrian facilities. If any of you Hucksters have input on what is needed in the future, we look forward to seeing you this evening.

Oh, and did I mention free cookies? We’ll have free cookies…

  • Cindy_H on May 19 at 2:51 p.m.

    How about beer?
    Any free beer?
    heh.

  • Staci on May 19 at 3:13 p.m.

If you’re buying Cindy. Rr maybe we can talk Bent into bringing some. We’ll even help you drink it. AFTER the workshop, of course. Us government employees are all by the book. No drinking, smoking, or screwing around going on here. Nope, just work. Blogging is work by the way, I’m doing ‘outreach.’

Since we’re plugging things this afternoon, I just wanted to mention again that I’m gonna be at The Grail on 6/10 to see a little known band that get’s less airplay and recognition than they deserve called Kings X.

    Website here: http://www.kingsxrocks.com/
    Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_X

They’re a band of relatively old guys, where traditional “bands” are concerned.

    Dug Pinnik - Bassist/Lead Vocals - 59 years old.
    Jerry Gaskill - Drums - 52
    Ty Tabor - Guitar - 48

The hail from my birth-state, so I’m obligated to check them out. If you like rock and roll at all, you should show up…even if it’s a seedy place like The Grail. I don’t know how well it’s been promoted because I don’t listen to radio, so I thought I’d do my part to let people know that this underground and quietly influential band is in town.

    Ok.. advertisement off.

Dave, since I didn’t get any spam, I probably won’t email this to you, but have you seen this not RE Rep. Minnick?

Seems he is cosponsoring HR 1207, Congressman Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act.

I really am starting to like this guy.

  • Don_Sausser on May 19 at 7:00 p.m.

Toad, after viewing their web site you had better stay home. Reruns of Mash would be more entertaining.

  • Raygun on May 19 at 9:36 p.m.

    From Mary Souza @ OpenCda:

As of 9:15 pm the Zone 3 results are in:

Incumbent Bill Hemenway has won with 233 votes. Challenger Terri Seymour was very, very close with 191 votes. (That’s a difference of only 42 votes.)

Zone 1 results are still being counted at this moment…stay tuned.

  • danofthecommunity on May 19 at 10:27 p.m.

In the world of elections this isn’t a close race; it works out to be 55% to 45%. Any elected official I know of would love a 10 point margin of victory.

If those numbers are right the astounding number would be the turn out. I believe the number of registered voters for the whole district is about 37,000. With five trustee zones the average (if they are relatively equal) number of registered voters per trustee zone would be about 7,400. If so, that would mean the turn out for this particular trustee election would be less than 6%! I hope my math is wrong.

The Governor signed the election consolidation bill yesterday. It will be interesting to see if one the main arguments for it comes to pass, that with more combined elections you will hopefully see turnouts go up.

  • toadman on May 19 at 10:38 p.m.

Ok, Don, Stick, maybe I didn’t make myself clear. I already know these guys (Kings X) and have been going to see them since 1990. I’ve seen them over fifteen times, as a matter of fact. I know them personally, as well.

While Cheers and M*A*S*H* are all quite enjoyable, I’ll have to disagree…these guys have musical chops.

  • marmitetoasty on May 19 at 11:29 p.m.

Your Joel Bloke with the ducks in Spokane was on our News this morning…..

I was looking through the crowds of people to see if I could spot anyone from here LOL…..

Really marmie! Wow! My mother said she saw the story down where she lives also! Must be a slow news week for the Spokane duck to make it to the news in TWO foreign countries, England, and Texas.

    ;-)
