Guilty Pleasures

Says OTV: “…the only thing worse than bad TV is people on their high horse crowing about how so above watching bad TV they are. Be honest, y’all have guilty pleasures too.”

Well. Do you?

I watched all three seasons of “Rock of Love.”

    I feel so dirty ….

  • Sisyphus on May 21 at 2:02 p.m.

Yes, hanging out on blogs. Apparently I’m far too good for the likes of American Idol but I will spend twenty minutes telling Kage why he’s full of it. ;-)

  • Cindy_H on May 21 at 2:04 p.m.

Scootermom: That was very brave. Be proud.

  • Nick_Adams on May 21 at 2:17 p.m.

I watched the first 4 seasons of Survivor, the first 2 of the Amazing race and was hooked on What Not to Wear for a while. None of the current crop has drawn me in.

Most of my guilty pleasures include Sci-Fi and Fantasy tv/movies, as well as Old Time radio shows.

  • JeanieSpokane on May 21 at 2:27 p.m.

My tv guilty pleasures are all the forensics shows. All. Of. Them.

My non-tv (or better stated, my “work” guilty pleasure) is grazing through HBO Land when I *should* be typing a letter.

  • JeanieSpokane on May 21 at 2:28 p.m.

You know, Sis - I’m a legal secretary. Maybe we should work together. You could do HBO in the first half hours and I could do HBO in the second half hours and between us, we could get briefs done, pleadings, letters, filing, AND get our blog fix.

  • BlueinIdaho on May 21 at 2:29 p.m.

No worries scooter, I not only watched ROL, I watched the precursor, Flavor of Love. I’ve given up on ever being clean again.

Sometimes, mindless TV is the only thing that will do.

  • Bent on May 21 at 2:35 p.m.

Ok, mine was Deal or No Deal — until, I actually convinced myself that I had a method to win… I gave it up after that.

  • Kage_Mann on May 21 at 2:38 p.m.

Sis, you and almost everybody on this thread has an addiction
to blogging or making online comments. Just look at the number of comments made.My guilty pleasures are: chips, pop and reality TV.

  • toadman on May 21 at 2:44 p.m.

My guilty pleasure? Well…it’s rather odd. I really love geeking out over Prog/Art rock concept albums…analyzing the lyrics for hidden meanings, or, what’s more, getting a new album and looking for hidden clues in the music to see if it’s some sort of HIDDEN concept album. This is why I’ve been gushing to friends lately about the latest The Decemberists album “The Hazards of Love.” It’s prog/art rock ear/mind candy for nerds. Seriously.

    I’m such a geek/dork/nerd, but I can’t help myself.

I also enjoy cleaning out my nose and frequently quoting passages and/or making references to locations that can only be found in the collected works of Tolkien.

See? Get to know a person too well, and….well, suffice it to say, it’s sometimes scary.

As for TV pleasures.. I have to say that I’m utterly addicted to House. I’ve been a Hugh Laurie fan since way back in the Black Adder days w hen he was working along side Rowan Atkinson. He’s an amazingly versatile actor. Everyone here realizes that he’s British, right? That he “puts on” that American accent? Freakin’ amazing. Also, when he plays the piano on the show, he REALLY IS playing the piano. He’s quite the musician.

I also love watching Monster Quest, and any show dealing with which way the earth is going to be annihilated this week. God, I love those shows.. I find them HILARIOUS!

  • mike_s on May 21 at 3:16 p.m.

    Root beer floats.

  • Staci on May 21 at 3:16 p.m.

My name is Staci and I’m addicted to ‘The Hills.’ I know you say it’s alright to have a vice, but this just doesn’t seem natural for a 34-year-old woman.

  • Sisyphus on May 21 at 3:16 p.m.

My family is addicted to House but since its the same episode every week I lost interest. I want my Bertie Wooster back. Funny that I don’t mind how Jeeves will repeatedly pull his bacon out of the fire but grow oh so weary of the doctors again enduring completely unrealistic mental gyrations to resolve equally dubious maladies.

~quoting passages and/or making references to locations that can only be found in the collected works of Tolkien.~

    toadman on May 21 at 2:50 p.m.

Toad - nothing to feel guilty about there - now if you were referencing Harry Potter - I would have to question your character a little bit. :)

  • toadman on May 21 at 3:23 p.m.

Sis.. yer right.. it is the same show every week.. but then, so was Jeeves and Wooster too.. still, House, Jeeves and Wooster, and Black Adder still keep me giggling and laughing all the way through, though the humor in House is much darker, to be sure.

  • BlueinIdaho on May 21 at 3:32 p.m.

Toadman, I actually had a class in high school that focused on rock music lyrics to look for vague (or not so vague) references to history or culture. Part of that class involved scrutiny of the Beatles albums in order to determine whether Paul lived or died.

That was one of the few classes in high school that made it tolerable…

  • Sisyphus on May 21 at 3:39 p.m.

Speaking of Atkinson I wish he’d give up on the Bean. While humorously quirky, he’s not likable and its so plaaaaaayed. He should develop a new character like the one he performed in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

  • toadman on May 21 at 3:48 p.m.

I agree Sisyphus. I thought the Mr. Bean television show was brilliant, but it’s a type of humor that can only go so far, and doesn’t/didn’t really translate well to the larger and longer movie format, it’s better suited to very short vignettes.

  • toadman on May 21 at 3:49 p.m.

@Blue - I’ve never had a class like that, but lots of people have told me I could teach one. I wonder if I see a new career path in my future!?

  • BlueinIdaho on May 21 at 3:52 p.m.

Toadman - it’s one of the few classes I still remember; one of the few professors I still remember…and I still wonder about Paul. For extra credit, the prof let a kid play the guitar solo from Stairway to Heaven… :)

  • Cindy_H on May 21 at 3:55 p.m.

When my youngest son was 4, he insisted on wearing a tie and combing his hair just like Mr. Bean. Then he’d march into Sunday School class and the teacher would say, “Good Morning, Sam.”
“Bean,” he’d reply. “Mr. Bean.” He had entire Bean routines memorized. We worried.
Then he outgrew it and we were sad.

I watch TV and play on the puter at the same time. I love both and I’m an addict.

  • Liz on May 21 at 7:06 p.m.

I like cartoons: spongebob, foster’s home and Billy and Mandy being amongst my faves. People magazine. Smarmier gossip mags than that even…
And the Backstreet Boys. and the NKOTB.
    Jackass.
    Along with more cultured endeavors…

  • florined on May 21 at 8:22 p.m.

A lifetime ago when I was in school, I actually turned down dates on several Friday nights because I couldn’t miss Roller Derby and was too embarassed to fess up. These days I’d just invite them to watch with me and break out the popcorn and beer.

But then it hasn’t been a problem lately <sniffle>

  • Escapee on May 21 at 9:00 p.m.

I can control my addiction to the internet. I can quit anytime I want. No, really. I mean, I can because I’ve done it before. Now if I could just learn to type and munch on Chee-tos Cheese Puffs, that would be something…wait…time for another bite…crunch….

  • Stickman on May 21 at 9:38 p.m.

I rarely watch anything anymore, except for SportsCenter in the late night because I am an old athlete. I loved the Nuggets beating the Lakers tonight, I jumped for joy at that thought. I will admit that I have seen every single episode of ‘Lost’, I got hooked long ago and still am. Other than that, you can have the rest.
