Luv ‘em all….but am dogless right now because one of my cats hates canines. I’m talkin’ the kind of hate that makes him go from tiny black cat to a spike-haired fang-baring ninja cat….the kind that makes him claw his way through my front screen door! Those who have witnessed this feline spectical, still talk about it and of course we all laugh. But they don’t bring their dogs over for visits anymore. Not unless the cat is in lockdown.
I loved your story, Cindy. I’m an orphan. Goes along with not getting any junk mail from Spain or Italy, I suppose. {sigh}
I love animals, but cats are my favorite. They cuddle and purr; if they love you, you know it’s true. Dogs love everyone! Even their own reflection. Everyone is dog’s best friend. Cats are very particular and persnickety. You’re the cream of the crop if a cat shows you favor.
Dang it Cindy, The cat’s away. Did he give you his blogging formula of Idol, cat/dog and scatology? Next you’ll be posting one of his freak show photos. Let’s get some Lord of the Flies action going here. ;-)
After losing my beloved dog of ten years, who traveled everywhere with me (I even remodeled my VW Bus to make it more commodious for him in my wandering years), I swore I would never own another dog- the pain of losing Duke was just too much. Of course, now that we have a little 2-year-old who refuses to say the word “doggie” but instead barks joyously every time he sees a dog… we may reconsider. One thing I am NOT is a cat person… however, I am a huge softy, and when we moved into our home out here a few years ago, I just HAD to take pity on this Morris lookalike, affectionate as all get out and nothing but fur and bones… First we started putting food out for him. Then winter rolled around and every time we’d step outside he’d be huddled on our tiny front step, so we bought a pet igloo type deal, replete with a soft blankie in there for him. Eventually he acquired the name “Rolex”, as in our “watch” cat… lame, I know- maybe you had to be there. So yeah, bottom line, we have an outdoor cat, one that invited himself into our lives and now we feed and pet him. To be fair, however, he is absolutely wonderful with our son, who tortures him mercilessly whenever we’re outside and Rolex isn’t quite quick enough to escape a session of tail and ear pulling, fur grabbing, and Jameson hollering, “KEE-KEE!!!” at him… poor furry dude.
1 dog, Boston terrier and 4 cats 3 of which are Siamese. Each one has a personality and provides relaxation in their own way. Would not give up any of them, they be family!
I have a dog and a cat, and love them both. I have also had a duck for week and a rabbit that was thrown away as well. Plus, over a hundred lost dogs in my time here and I have found the owners 99% of the time.
Cat person here, have 4 of ‘em which is 2 too many (long story). Dogs are too needy, no fault of their own but they are high maintenance animals, like toddlers all their lives. If you work outside the house, it’s difficult to keep them well taken care of and entertained during the work day.
Whilst cats are like kids, too…but they turn into teenagers really quickly, in that they rarely need you other than to provide their basic living needs…and you don’t have to worry about them when you’re away during the day.

I have a dog and two cats. I enjoy traits of both. If push came to shove, I’d go with the dog.
Birds as pets totally creeps me out.
Cindy_H on May 21 at 12:35 p.m.
Me too, Nick. Birds with their beady, little eyes and jerky head movements totally creep me out. I wonder what being a bird lover says about a person?
Dennis on May 21 at 12:40 p.m.
Definately a Dog person. We have two. The larger one grows horns if she sees a cat which if caught becomes a chew toy.

My dog is about a 120 pounder and he is afraid of cats and all those little dogs that look like car wash mitts.

Sis, I’m afraid DFO’s source of freaky animal photos is a closely guarded secret. Even Ryan doesn’t know where he gets them.
I know. I asked :-)

Dogs. I love fuzzy muzzles and slobbery tennis balls.
I never did get cats. Some people appreciate their independence, but I just find them to be filthy and aloof.
JeanieSpokane on May 21 at 2:25 p.m.
Aloof, yeah - but filthy? My cats spent their entire waking moments licking their fur (well, and then hacking up fur balls - THAT’s pretty filthy).
Kage_Mann on May 21 at 2:54 p.m.
“Look. It was either adopt a kitty or have another baby”.
What kind of mindset goes with making that type of decision?
People cannot afford to have more than 4 kids today anyway.
;-(

Neat article!
I’m lucky enough to have a dog and a cat who are good friends and playmates for each other and me.

LOVED the article, Cindy - from yesterday - read it in the paper - which I guess means that I’m a cat person… which I am!
