Cindy
As bad as I need a vacation, it’s a poor time to take one because Huckleberries is finally in full recovery mode, page-view wise. The counter has been clicking along between 7000 and 8000 for two weeks now. Before we switched to the new system, HBO was running in the 8500+ range. Registration and the new blogware knocked that down to 5000 in January. We’ve now cut the losses from 40% down to about 15%. Meanwhile, the unique views are climbing to the old range. By the time I get back June 1, it’ll be almost summer. Which means blog doldrums for three months. But I don’t want to think about that now, I’ll think about that after vacation. After all, we’re going to have fun with this year’s city mayoral and council races in the fall. Right, Sandi? Right, MikeK? Right, DanG? CindyH said she might sneak in here to post a coupla things while I’m gone. Be kind to here. Now, I’m off to bed with a full list of honey-do’s waiting for me in the morning. Here’s your Wild Card …

the faster response times, especially re: comments sections is another plus for HBO…thanks, Ryan!

An excellent speech.

Fidelity to our values is the reason why the United States of America grew from a small string of colonies under the writ of an empire to the strongest nation in the world.
It is the reason why enemy soldiers have surrendered to us in battle, knowing they’d receive better treatment from America’s armed forces than from their own government.
It is the reason why America has benefited from strong alliances that amplified our power, and drawn a sharp and moral contrast with our adversaries.
It is the reason why we’ve been able to overpower the iron fist of fascism, outlast the iron curtain of communism, and enlist free nations and free people everywhere in common cause and common effort.
From Europe to the Pacific, we have been a nation that has shut down torture chambers and replaced tyranny with the rule of law. That is who we are. And where terrorists offer only the injustice of disorder and destruction, America must demonstrate that our values and institutions are more resilient than a hateful ideology.

Sisy….his speeches are always excellent. He thinks a lot like me about things…or maybe vice versa.. I dunno. Maybe that’s why he’s pissing people off on both sides of the aisle. That sort of thing happens to me, too.
Sisyphus on May 21 at 9:18 a.m.
Oh please spare me.
toadman on May 21 at 9:36 a.m.
@Sisy - HA! Ok.. I will.

Anyone know what is going on at Lake City High School, it looks as if its in some kind of lockdown mode. Streets blocked off, Cops everywhere. Drill?
JIMMYMAC on May 21 at 10:01 a.m.
I saw that too, Redman…weird.
Kage_Mann on May 21 at 10:04 a.m.
It’s a senior drill involving accidents. So, they know what to do in case they come upon an accident scene. They never had that when I was in school, but that was many years ago.

Man, it’s gonna be a long week next week if today is any indication of how slow it is when Dave’s gone! LOL
Have a restful week off DFO
pthompson on May 21 at 12:54 p.m.
This is going to be a slow week. I wanted to harp about the local logging company (Worman) from Hayden who lost a worker yesterday in an accident. With all the loggers out of work here in North Idaho why for Gods sake do you have to hire folks from out of the country to log? Why?

I hadn’t heard about this. Where is it being reported?

Good news today from our youngest daughter, she got promoted to Petty Officer 1st class or an E-6 for those who track those kind of things.
She’s a Navy Corpsman currently serving in San Diego.
I told her I’d like her to at least make Chief sometime so that when they come up to Twin Lakes for a summer visit and we want to go out for a little cruise I can holler, “Chief of the boat, take her out!”
toadman on May 21 at 2:38 p.m.
I’ve always thought that the term “Petty Officer” sounded like an insult, but that’s cuz I have absolutely no familiarity with military stuff…
Congratulations on the promotion!

It’s much to nice to stay inside for very long today.Beautiful day and I hope it stays this way for awhile.

Ironman volunteers needed for event
COEUR d’ALENE — The field of athletes for the Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene next month has long been full, but there’s still plenty of room for volunteers.
The success of the June 21 race — 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run — depends largely on volunteers, say organizers.
All told, about 3,000 are needed for various roles, including working at aid stations, course pointers, boat safety, bike handlers, crowd control, helping athletes in transition and cleaning up when it’s all over.
Some of the more popular volunteer roles that fill early are
wetsuit peelers,
finish line catchers and body markers.

Wetsuit peelers.
Frum Helen Back on May 21 at 7:01 p.m.
I missed that DFO was appointing Cindy to fill in for him. You better watch it Dave. She’s good.
Cindy_H on May 21 at 7:04 p.m.
Thanks guys!
I’ll be a wetsuit peeler if I can choose who I pull those wetsuits off of. Nothing against the ladies, but I’ve found it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to get fellas to cooperate :-)
Cindy_H on May 21 at 7:06 p.m.
And FHB, this is a strictly volunteer gig. If I get my work done early tomorrow, I’m outta here and you can enjoy the Wild Card.
Nobody can take DFO’s place.
Nobody.
Stickman on May 21 at 9:26 p.m.
As I have sat here for all of the Ironman events over the years, I can see Cindy’s joy in her new volunteer job. If anyone wants to watch the race from a true front row seat, come by, as I see them all day long and into the night.
Stickman on May 21 at 9:28 p.m.
And of course Cindy is good, you need to meet her if you haven’t. Then you will know.
Stickman on May 25 at 6:01 p.m.
And as a wet suit puller, I’ll bet she is as good as they come.
