I’ve delivered paintball weaponry with no arrests or explosions. Now, I’m off to join the masses at Costco to stock up on BBQ supplies. Play nicely. Cindy
Good golly, Ms. Cindy. Pleaz join me in a standing O for CindyH. Who did a dyne-oh!-mite job pinch-hitting for me on Thursday. Cindy asked on my way out the door, if she could post a few things. I said, sure. And didn’t think anything else about it until Thursday evening when I checked in here. And saw her conversation starters and thread comments. She has the touch to do this thing. I guess I’m safe until she has her kids raised. Then, they’ll put me out to pasture and fill the vacancy with Cindy Lou. I still have a few years. So I should be able to retire gracefully. Seriously, though, I deeply appreciate what she did here Thursday. And just as seriously, she has the ability to make a blog sing. I deeply appreciate Cindy’s efforts to hold things together a bit for a day or two. I’ve always wondered how to get Huckleberries through the down periods when I’m on vacation. Mebbe this is part of the answer. I’ll certainly sleep easier tonight. Now, for the second vacation Wild Card …

As she tries to keep the herd quiet in your absence she can remember our motto when we’re taking care of the grandkids, “hey, we’re not raising ‘em, we’re just babysitting.”

A couple of letters in the Coeur d’Alene Press this morning, both writers are basically attacking the democratic process that makes this nation great. First off, Leslie Damiano tells the Press readership that from the 15 April “TEA party” the “majority is silent no longer,” just how many people actually inundated Independence Point in thousands of bodies? No? Half the town? No? Half the county? No? Then the majority had better things to do than vent about why it is the GOP are no longer in the majority. So, the highlight of this letter seems to be that the next day for “protesting something” must be on 12 June 2009. Why is that? The television analog signal gets switched off permanently? That decision to broadcast in digital TV was made long before Obama ever entered Congress let alone became President. Because Obama extended the deadline for the switch over so that people would have more time to make the necessary conversions? That would be an even sillier reason to “protest” than the last ones they came up with. Not that Damiano gave that as a reason, but the date is telling. Since 12 June is the last day for anyone to receive analog signals. So far, the only interference by THIS administration into the entertainment industry was to extend the analog to digital deadline, I don’t see much cause to repeat a “TEA party” that falls on deaf ears among politicians anyway. The REAL majority put in the existing administration and the current Congress. Time for the TEA party going MINORITY to get a grip.
Arch_Druid on May 22 at 7:29 a.m.
I’ll further add that while I’ll agree that the federal gvt shouldn’t be spending what it doesn’t have, that should have been Damiano’s beef from the beginning. Why wait until the last administration and the last Congress is long gone though before holding a TEA party?
Going from there to Jim Hollingsworth. He attacks our public schools as “socialist.” The students who put Obama into office as “socialist.” And the public schools that failed to teach these kids what the founding of this country is all about. I’d have to say that Mr. Hollingsworth doesn’t much have an understanding about this nation’s founding. We engaged in a Revolutionary war to win the freedom to decide our own fate as an independent nation. To set up our own rules and a system of gvt such as we preferred to have as opposed to being ruled into perpetuity by the crown. To assemble to vote and peacefully change our gvt as we saw fit for the times as was necessary. That changes in this nation’s history IN FACT came from the choice of “the people” as to whom they put into office. Presidents to members of Congress. Governors to members of State legislatures. So in this instance, Hollingsworth doesn’t like the fact that McCain lost to Obama, so? That the young people for the first time voted in droves for Obama, so?
Has Hollingsworth considered that the last administration didn’t do a thing for the young people of this nation beyond turning them into cannon fodder in Iraq? That these young people have little prospect in good jobs that they have been educated for. They as a result can be quite frankly scared for their own futures. Then I have no doubts that they would have voted their wallets just like their parents in putting Obama into office. So be it. Hollingsworth doesn’t like it, then I am sure that there is a totalitarian society that would willingly take him in instead. Otherwise, in the next 2 to 4 years, if the people don’t like what they have now, then they will peacefully assemble to change it.

I just came back to say I hate when Dave goes on vacation. It really messes up my work day. But this Cindy development is something new. Scrolling through your posts, it looks like you held the line pretty well, Cindy. You go, Girl. I’ll be coming around to see what you have today …
A_Druid, you might like my cartoon, GOP Plan B: http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m215/chronicdiscontent/cartoons/?action=view¤t=cartoongopplanb.jpg
Um, maybe not, too. (:

Hey, did y’all see how the New York Magazine did an article on our Duck Man and the Mama Duck (ducklings hatched last Friday and made their way to the river Saturday evening, coincidentally as the Lilac Parade was just getting ready to start) - the Mag is skeptical about the story. Can’t be true. A TARP banker? Wearing jeans? With camera crews all ready to film? (The Mag didn’t dig deep enough to find out, oh, this all happened last year, oh, the mama duck not only won’t reject her babies but actually came back this year after last year’s success with the same banker-in-blue-jeans)… Many people have commented on the article, including Duckman himself (on May 21). Here’s the article -

Thanks DFO. My volunteerism is entirely self-serving. I took on extra work this week and will be tied to my desk quite a bit (makes typing difficult). Anyhow, I need my HBO distraction. Why without it, I’d get my work done in a timely manner and have to clean my house or work out or something.
No blogging at the speed of light for me. More like blogging at the speed in which the last dab of molasses drips from the bottle :-)

I really enjoyed Kathleen Parker’s opinion piece this morning (http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2009/may/22/steele-wrong-man-for-gop/) for 2 reasons: there’s something fun in accepting the fact that both major political parties have linguistic problems. And I loved her phrase “shoot-from-the-lip.” Maybe it didn’t originate with Ms. Parker, but I don’t think I’ve seen it before. “Shoot-from-the-lip.” I’m adding that to my own vocabulary.
Frum Helen Back on May 22 at 11:31 a.m.
“Shoot-from-the-lip” is an excellent description of my “occasional” melt downs when dealing with the City of Hauser officials.

“It cost $42.50 each, reduced from the normal $65 fee. But taking into consideration that they have had all their shots, have been spayed/neutered, have the chip, and come with a free vet visit, that’s a pretty good deal.”
Not a bad deal for a couple of good mousers, Jen. Let us know how they earn their keep. They make good head-warmers, too, during the winter.

Kage, Cindy’s work is often linked on the site. She writes really well. Don’t you visit? Go read her story on getting Milo the kitten.

Sis, I’ve never read her stuff, besides the comments she makes here.

Cindy is a columnist for the SR Voices and also writes for other publications and magazines. I think she’s awesome! Type in Cindy Hval in the search field in the upper right hand corner of this page and you’ll get several of her articles. She recently was informed that she has an article for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series - I think under Power Moms. It’s maybe her fourth for Chicken Soup. I’m a Cindy groupie. :) And proud of it!

She is the first writer that made me cry that I have met (online). Someday I hope to meet her in real life.
