What’s on the Barbie?

Memorial Day weekend is traditionally when folks fire up their barbecues for their first time. Not us. We bbq all year long. Well, except for this year when the grill got buried beneath several feet of snow. That put a crimp in the cookouts.
So what will be on your grill this weekend?

* Hamburgers

* Hot Dogs

* Steak

* Chicken

* Other

    Shrimp…. on the barbie!

    (ba-dump-dump)

    Thanks! I’ll be here all week - you’ve been a great audience.

  • Lynne on May 22 at 9:17 a.m.

    Shrimp kabobs and steak kabobs

  • Dennis on May 22 at 9:32 a.m.

    Probably my hand. ow.

  • JeanieSpokane on May 22 at 9:59 a.m.

    I have to go buy a grill. Gee - first Memorial weekend in I don’t know how long that the weather will be PERFECT!

  • nic on May 22 at 10:00 a.m.

    Hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, steak, chicken, asparagus, bacon (yes, you can grill bacon as long as you don’t let the grease fall into the fire), walla-walla sweet onions… we’re going to barbeque almost every meal.

  • JIMMYMAC on May 22 at 10:08 a.m.

    Ribeyes bay-bee!

  • Arpie on May 22 at 10:28 a.m.

    Pork ribs tonight, burgs and smokies tomorrow, salmon Sunday, ribeyes Monday. I don’t have the rest of next week planned yet.

    and it’s a weber!

  • chatterbox on May 22 at 10:50 a.m.

    Chilian Sea Bass. Blackened for the hubby & birthday boy (who turns 16 today)…maybe a little lemon pepper for me. The stomach is a little queasy today. 2nd round of chemo yesterday.

  • spokelooneh on May 22 at 10:58 a.m.

    Buffalo burgers!

  • toadman on May 22 at 11:35 a.m.

    Wow.. so much meat listed here. You guys are all gonna be stopped up. You know, you can grill asparagus also (Jbelle….way to go!), and bell peppers, and onion (nic for the win!), and portobello mushrooms.. really, you can.. and they’re really good too.

  • toadman on May 22 at 11:37 a.m.

    …oh…also…one more thing to be a killjoy (heh).. remember to NOT let the flames actually touch the food. If they blacken the food, they could create carcinogens, which in turn, have a higher probability of creating free radicals in our bodies. Nobody wants free radicals in their bodies…trust me.

  • BayviewBob on May 22 at 11:38 a.m.

    Pork Butt
    nuff said.

  • Arpie on May 22 at 11:46 a.m.

    You’re right Toad. I grill a red pepper with almost every meal. My asparagus patch is really coming on this year, which is a blast to pick and throw right on the barbi kind of like eating fish riverside.

  • Cindy_H on May 22 at 11:55 a.m.

    Um. Hamburgers don’t sound so great anymore. So here’s my new plan. Me and the boys will stop by JBelle’s first, then it’s on to Nic’s. After that we’ll find a shady spot and rest a bit. Then it’s off to Arpie’s. We’ll finish up with some ribeye at Jimmy’s.
    Sorry Toad, we gave up charred human flesh for Lent and just haven’t picked it back up.

  • JIMMYMAC on May 22 at 12:34 p.m.

    I smell a HBO BBQ challenge coming on. Let me know if any of you want a shot at the title.

  • Nick_Adams on May 22 at 2:09 p.m.

    Chicken tonight. Hamburgers tomorrow. Marinated flank steak Monday if I’m that ambitious. And don’t fret, Toad, there’ll be plenty of veggies next to them. I’ll avoid them (except the ‘shrooms), but the GF loves ‘em.

  • Sisyphus on May 22 at 2:17 p.m.

    Make some for me Nick. I’m coming over.

  • Cabbage Boy on May 22 at 2:47 p.m.

    What’s on the Barbie?

    The Ken doll?

    Sorry, probably T-Bones cooked over an open fire as I am fishin this weekend.

  • Dennis on May 22 at 3:01 p.m.

    When I got home today,,,,, I found the the Boss (aka; My Wife) has an elk roast thawing. It goes in the smoker Sunday morning!!!

  • Bent on May 22 at 3:56 p.m.

    I’with Arpie and Jbelle. Fresh Copper River Salmon and I always grill the veggies. I like to do a medley of different peppers on the top rack while grilling the main course on the bottom rack. The drippings help flavor the meat. I like to add some wood chips for about 15 miuntes of smoke as well… can’t wait.

  • inlandempiregirl on May 22 at 5:25 p.m.

    We started early last night with ribeyes , but then we are moving to basic burgers tonight. I just don’t have the rest of the week-end organized yet, but I am sure it will be BBQed.

  • Stickman on May 22 at 8:52 p.m.

    Of course, I am a minority here, but eating animals is sickening to me. Enjoy of course the tradition of BBQ’ing and being with friends, but the thought of the poor animal that went through life to please you is revolting.

  • mia on May 23 at 4:32 p.m.

    Hilarious CB! Red wine marinated rib eyes last night. Tomorrow Thai yogurt marinated chicken goes on the grill with a side dish of broccoli salad and Panna Cotta for dessert. Maybe grilled lamb chops on Monday. I’m game for a BBQ challenge JimmyMac.

  • Bent on May 23 at 5:56 p.m.

    I didn’t see the Jimmymac BBQ challenge earlier. I am with Mia … Bring. It. On. Baa. Bee.

    And it better be you’re “A Game” because I am known in BBQ circles.

    Hey, maybe we could tie in a BBQ cook-off with the beer tasting at Taryn’s studio on June 20th! I was just going to BBQ some snacks for that event, but a cook-off would be blast…

    Is anyone else game for that? Jimmy? Or are you just talkin’ smack?

    I’ll bring my charcoal BBQ/smoker, and I’ll even throw on some portabellas for the stickman.

  • mia on May 23 at 6:45 p.m.

    Sounds like fun. If a BBQ cook-off event comes together with the beer tasting on the 20th of June, I’m in. Bent’s in it to win it!

  • Stickman on May 23 at 7:03 p.m.

    I will be in if Bent brings the brew and you all can consume the animal products from a distance. I won’t mind, if I am downwind of course. Bent’s brew will make it worth it, as he makes such a fine product. I guess we’ll see.

  • Bent on May 23 at 9:03 p.m.

    Ok, it’s on. I’ll let Taryn know, if she doesn’t read this first…

    Right on Stickman. We’ll try not to gross you out. And, like I said, I’ll find something veggie for you…

  • JIMMYMAC on May 24 at 12:52 a.m.

    Consider it brought, Bent ;)

    Besides, any way to stir up a reason to sample some good ole BBQ fare is worth getting my arse handed to me anyhow.

  • JIMMYMAC on May 24 at 12:55 a.m.

    oh, and one stipulation….
    NO GAS GRILLS IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS PURE Q’ING!!!!!!!!!!

  • BayviewBob on May 24 at 7:13 a.m.

    Grilling and BBQ are two totally different things.

    http://www.bbqmyths.com/grilling.html

    I like both.

  • Bent on May 24 at 9:47 a.m.

    Cool, Jimmy and Mia. Anyone else in?

    Okay, folks mark your calendars. we’re going to need lots of Judges, too…

  • tarynahecker on May 24 at 10:00 a.m.

    Thanks for the heads up, Bent. I’ve been waitressing all weekend so not been online all that much. (For anyone looking for some good eats this holiday weekend check out Spirit Lake’s Fireside. Only open holiday weekends. I’ll be there honing my waitress skills some more). I’ve rounded up a few more folks who are planning to be here on June 20 and I’ll have the studio up and running for anyone who wants to partake in some portrait specials. I’ll have some appetizers and some vegetarian salads to go with or without the bbq fare and some non-alcoholic beverages. This is gonna be a blast :)

  • Bent on May 24 at 10:26 a.m.

    DFO, you should front page this challenge. We might attract a few more chefs and a lot more judges that way

  • Stickman on May 24 at 1:47 p.m.

    Sounds like a great event. The bloggers here sure know how to get us all together for a great event. Maybe a mini blogfest in a way. I will sure as heck try and make it, wherever the heck, heck is. I’m sure someone will let me know.

  • Stickman on May 24 at 1:50 p.m.

    As for special food, please don’t make the effort. I am a very distinct minority and I know it, so I would just bring my simple peanut butter and huckleberry jam sandwich. The rest of you of course can dine on many of the various 4 legged animals of this world. Hopefully Bent brings some of his delightful brew, but just a taste for me, as I will probably have to drive.

  • Bent on May 24 at 6:06 p.m.

    Oh, stickman, you know me. I will have a spectacular selection of summer brews all ready for this event. I’m going shopping for supplies on Tuesday and the beer will be brewing Tuesday afternoon!

  • Stickman on May 25 at 5:55 p.m.

    Bent: I was assuming it would be a close event. Let me know the details and of course we will see.
