Huckleberries Online

Fresh and Local

In theory, I love the idea of a garden. In reality, I hate the work. For me, the next best thing is a Farmer’s Market like this one: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2009/may/26/colbert-farmers-market-thrives/

Tell us about your favorite Farmer’s Market.

Mike’s right, those land lovers in Olympia have a fantastic Farmers’ Market.

But we’re doing better here, year after year, in the Inland Armpit.

Moscow’s Farmer’s Market is pretty awesome. I also like the one at 95 and Prairie, in Hayden. There’s just something about a Farmer’s Market!

Sandpoint has a good one, be it Wed. afternoon or Sat. morning..Sat. usually has music as well… one of the guys there has an awesome b-b-que sauce. And then there is the bread man… and so many veggie spots.

Years ago we used to attend a gathering outside Eugene Oregon every year I think it was in August. At the gathering it was like being transported back to the 1960s, a person could buy all the marijuana and LSD they could consume, I still dream of those days.

Now that is a farmers market!

The last farmers market I attended was behind Hastings on Wellesley several years ago but the prices were too high. What is the point of having to pay more at an outside farmers market then I have to pay at Safeway?

Farmer markets used to be a place to buy fresh farm grown foods at discount prices. Now it seems they are places to buy farm fresh foods at yuppie prices.

When we lived in Portland every year we went out to the farms that allowed you pick. At the end of the season we would go out and pick all the foods for free, those were the days.

I just walk down to the one in downtown Coeur d’Alene. Some fresh bread and fresh vegies and I’m good to go until next week.

Oh, and can’t forget the jerky!

You know Post Falls is lacking a Farmers Market. I think Black Bay Park would be an excellent location for one. They two very nice grassy areas that would be perfect and plenty of parking to boot.

It would also provide a community presence and possibly deter the undesirables that tend to frequent this beautiful park for all the wrong reasons.
