Little Tiny Tables

So my bank was bought by another bank. New decor. New checks. And new tables in the lobby. You know— the tables containing deposit/withdrawal slips. The tables with the awful, awkward pens tied to some kind of unbending plastic wire. However, the big New York bank sent my local branch little, tiny tables. Tables so small that only ONE person can use them at a time. Two if yer feeling friendly. There’s no privacy, no place to put your purse, and even the calculators are miniscule. That’s my pet peeve today. What’s yours?

    Cindy:

I have just four words for you:

    Spokane Teachers Credit Union

Zero fees, friendly people, LOCAL, and like any credit union they are non-profit which means better interest on your savings and better rates on your loans. Branches everywhere. Great on-line banking. I’ve been a member for a little over 40 years. It’s so easy.

I ♥♥♥♥ STCU. I’ve been a credit union member the past 10 years and moved to STCU last summer. I refinanced my home with them last month and the process was as painless (and inexpensive) as it could be.

I have no idea why anyone would do buisness with a bank these days.

why don’t the pens ever work?

My pet peeve -pencils and pencil sharpeners. Pencils seem to be made more cheaply than they used to be. Quite often the lead is not in the center of the pencil. This yields a poorly sharpened pencil that has wood on one side.

When I started teaching I had the same pencil sharpener in my room for three years. Now I need a new one every year. Moving to electric sharpeners has added to my peeve. The things are more expensive and break more often. The one in my classroom now has an irritating screech that it makes every time you pull the pencil out.

I’ve thought about requiring my students to use only the fine classic Ticonderoga pencils that always sharpen nicely, but they are expensive and I don’t want parents driving all over town looking for pencils.

Also either the erasers aren’t as well made or my students are making more mistakes. We go through 20 pencil top erasers a week even without counting the ones Billy keeps putting in his nose.

    Thanks for asking.

    - People who drive in the left lane of the freeway.
    - People who write checks at the grocery store.
    - People who can’t seem to get money out of an ATM machine in under 5 minutes.
    - People who smoke in their cars.
    - People who order 15 meals at the drive through window.
    - People who yell at their kids in public.
    - People who talk loudly on cell phones in restaurants.
    - In general - people.

Today - my pet peeve is Time Warner Cable. I recently switched to having my bill autopay’d from my checking account. They billed it twice, once for the bill and another 8.15 charge for “EFT Payment”

Does anyone know if this is a monthly fee or just a one time fee for switching over?

    poolman, you forgot one

    - people who make lists of what irritates them.

    :)

    Arpie,

As a long time pencil person, I share your peeve.

Once you’ve experienced a good, quality pencil - it’s hard to accept the dreadful things currently being marketed. Yea, and erasers aren’t what they used to be either.

Thanks Howard and Luke. I’ve been a member of the Federal Credit Union for over 20 years. I can’t remember why we bank at WAMU too. Something about our mortgage maybe? Anyhow, I’ve got free checking there and the branch is in my grocery store.
I spend a lot of time at the grocery store.
Do credit unions have bigger tables?

  • Digger on May 27 at 12:46 p.m.

Pullman’s WaMu was rebranded to Chase yesterday. Moscow was in the process from the inside, haven’t paid attention to the sign.

With internet banking, online bill pay and direct deposit I don’t get into the branch that often.

  • Howard_Martinson on May 27 at 1:45 p.m.

    Cindy:

I’m with Digger. With on-line bill pay, US Mail and internet banking - I almost never go into an STCU branch, however they are there if you need them. Several in Spokane, a large branch in Post Falls and a branch in Dalton. And one in Newport.

    It’s totally hassle-free banking.

This time of the year my pet peeve is lousy automatic car washes.
I usually do my own washing - thankfully that’s still legal in the Evergreen state - but sometimes I just want to run the car through the big foamy tunnel and get it done with.
Yet my dear little car often emerges with bug bodies still stuck all over the front, bird droppings barely gone and crud stuck in odd places. And forget about clean wheels. Yikes.

When SOME people are on vacation and I’m not.

    :)

  • Cindy_H on May 27 at 4:29 p.m.

Listen Poolman, I had to drive on the left lane of the freeway. My cigar smoke had filled my car and I couldn’t SEE to change lanes. I tried for 15 minutes to get the darn ATM to give me some money, but I couldn’t remember my pin, so I HAD to write a check at the grocery store.
Obviously, you’ve never ordered for four boys at a drive-thru. They eat A LOT and they change their minds A LOT. I had to yell at them to shut up, because I was talking to my best friend about her new sofa (red, can you believe it!) and I couldn’t hear about the matching pillows with the kids fighting and the drive-thru kid, saying, “Will that be all?”
And some jerk behind me kept honking.

Life really is too short to let little things become an annoyance.

  • Stickman on May 28 at 10:14 a.m.

That was great Cindy. With 4 boys, I’m sure life takes on different meanings every day.
